Hi all,

My daughter is almost 1 and certain prefers finger food to the jarred food (mostly meat) that we are feeding her. Does anyone have any recommendations for finger meat foods? I'm not sure if lunchmeat is good because of the high salt content. We don't eat beef so that is out. I'm going to ask my doctor but I wondered what you all would suggest that worked for you.

Thanks!

The sliced turkey at Trader Joe's has no preservatives and we sometimes get the Boers Head which is also free of preservatives.

Turkey meatballs are always good, but she might not like it at first since the texture is different. My son sometimes likes it.

The Tyson chicken nuggets are good. They are 100% all natural. They are located in the freezer section with all the other Tyson type foods.

I hope this helps! :-)

My son eats Veggie burgers, Turkey burgers, ham chunks, chicken cut into chunks. They do have MSG low sodium lunch meats if you want once in a while. Any plain meat with very little to no seasoning is good for them. He also likes beans for a protein source.

Good luck

Browned ground turkey and shredded poached or grilled chicken are both really good choices!

You can buy low sodium lunchmeat, either at TJ or Jewel.

We started feeding my daughter what we ate around 9-10 months. Everything can be finger foods, just do tiny bits.

Chicken is a good one. Fish, white. Stews are always popular.

If you're going to use lunch meat, you may want to look for the type that's free of preservatives. Lunch meat is full of the stuff. It's more expensive but they eat so little that a package will last for a while. Same idea applies to hot dogs. My son loves them but I try, when I can, to feed him the natural kind. What my son also loves is a hamburger patty cooked with a little salt and pepper (or grilled) and cheese melted on top, cut into tiny pieces. That's a good one for fork practice too. And another one we love are these fish sticks from Costco. Again, they're on the natural side but you get a huge bag for around $15.

I always did ground meats with my kid - beef, lamb, chicken, turkey. Also, the frozen salmon burgers at Trader Joes are great! Oh, and the frozen turkey meatballs at TJs also. Canned chicken or the occasional tuna is a good choice too.
