i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around seeking '2nd opinions' on the internet after 6 months of seeing 6 doctors and a biopsy.

My son has had swollen lymph nodes on both sides of his neck for 6 months now. He has time periods of running a high fever (most recently 104.5) but when he goes to the dr all tests for flu, mono, strep are negative. He has been tested for mono 2 times since he was having a fever, tired, and swollen lymph nodes and every time it was negative. The past 2 months he has been sleeping with me in bed and i have noticed that he has been sweating at night, so much that his hair, clothes, sheets and my side are wet. He has swollen lymph nodes in his groin and on the side of his rib (close to his armpit).
The ENT did a biopsy last week that came back negative today. He removed 7 lymph nodes and 1 salivary gland and 2 nodes that were the size of a large grape (quarter shape) Now I am wondering why he was having those symptoms. Lymph nodes are still swollen and he is still having night sweats. We are going to get a second opinion to try to figure this out.
ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING? Many Thanks.
**We have seen 5 doctors now about my son prior to doing the biopsy. I am wanting to get another opinion on what to do now that this test is negative. The ENT seemed to think he was completely fine.**

Yes, I do. Do you have access to a great children's hospital? I think that would be your best next contact.
If you've seen 5 doctor's why are you needing another opinion. You now have 5 opinions. Did any of them suggest treatment and did you follow thru with it. Seeing 5 different doctor's sounds like shopping for a doctor who will give you a different diagnosis. I suggest you stay with one doctor to treat and evaluate over time. When you change doctors, each has to start from the beginning. You need a continuation of treatment and evaluation over time.
I have never had a doctor say someone was OK when they weren't. If they did they would be setting themselves up for a lawsuit. This doctor would've said bring him back if he doesn't improve.
He just had those nodes removed a couple of weeks ago. It takes time for the body to adjust. I wouldn't expect a change this soon.
I agree a children's hospital has more available resources and taking him there would be better than seeing a 6th doctor.
You could make an appointment at Children's in OKC and find the right doc of course. Then take him back over and over and over. Something is wrong, you feel it and the docs are unable to tell you what's going on. Keep pestering them.
Guess it's good finding out what it's not but that still leaves you wondering what it is.
How old is your son?
Has he been tested for HIV?
Has anyone looked for an embedded tick anywhere?
Has he seen a dentist?
Problems with teeth can sometimes be hard to find.
Has any ENT suggested he have his tonsils/adenoids out (they can sometimes be a problem and removing them can clear some things up)?

I hope this is nothing serious and it's resolved soon.
Are the doctors going out of their way to diagnose your son? Or are they just doing a test or two and sending him home?
I second a good pediatric hospital. Someone needs to take this bull by the horns and figure it out, not leave it up to you.
And have you been abroad, where he might have picked up some infectious disease?
For the sweat try 100 cotton no polyester that will help
You want a second opinion now? Why didn't you get a second opinion before they removed all those lymph nodes? Did you go to a children's hospital and have a PLAN put together before this?
I sure hope so.
If you haven't, then what are you waiting for? You need to get him in to see an ped oncologist. I wouldn't wait one more day.
Does he have a persistent cough? Either way, I think I'd consult with an oncologist and an infectious disease specialist. Hope you get some answers and he gets well soon!
