Has anyone experienced this problem?

I am 21 weeks prego and since Wedensday felt sore and tender under my left armpit. I looked yesterday and saw there was a bump. I assumed it was an ingrown hair and have just left it alone but then I got worried when I noticed a second one on my right side. The right side is not as tender but it is still there which concerns me.

I am just curious if anyone else had/has this problem and what your experience was? I have emailed my Dr but do not go back in for another check up until 6/12 which is some time off.

Thanks for your help!!

What can I do next?

Hi N.,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm a mom of 1 with another on the way (in just about 4 weeks!). I'm also a nurse. I say, always err on the side of caution and get yourself checked by a doctor. I have no idea of what these "bumps" might be, but it's always best to get checked to receive peace of mind if nothing else.

On another note, "Welcome to Castro Valley." I live here to and hope you find it to be a nice community. May I take a moment to invite you to our Castro Valley MOPS?
MOPS stands for "Mothers of Pre-Schoolers," but your kid doesn't have to be in preschool in order to attend. MOPS is for Moms who are pregnant on up to when their last child graduates kindergarten. We meet in Castro Valley from September through May on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday mornings of the month, 9:15am-11:30am. There are about 40 moms who come along with their young children. There's a program or nursery care for the children at the same time. The children enjoy songs, stories, play time and crafts while the moms enjoy adult conversation, brunch, laughter, giveaways, crafts and a relevant speaker. It's a great time. We meet at a local church called Redwood Chapel Community Church; however, you don't have to go to that church (or any church for that matter) in order to come. MOPS is open to every mom in this season of life. Sorry for the "plug", but I'm coordinating MOPS again this year and want as many women as possible to benefit from this neat place. If you're looking to get "plugged in" with other women in this season of life, MOPS is a great way to do it.

Hope to see you sometime! If you have any questions about it, jot me an email at ____@____.com

Call your doctor right away and make an urgent appointment. You need to have that seen - it could be a cyst but it could be something serious. Don't wait.

Hi N.! I had the exact same problem when I was pregnant, and I went to the doc for it, Those can get really uncomfortable! I actually thought it might have been a cyst or something, but as it turns out, it just another one of those glorious things that come with preganacy! The doc explained to me that the tail of the breast tissue ends in the armpit, so the same hormones that are at work in your breasts right now, are doing the same thing there. He said that a warm compress might help reduce the pain, but other than that it just something that you'll have to live with. Mine went away after I gave birth, but dont be surprized if they get huge again (like golfballs!)when your milk comes in. Thats just a milk storage that the body makes, and the dr told me it will go away when it realizes its not being used. A good thing it did! Those things are killer! the weird things the body does... Other than that I hope the rest of your preganacy is going smoothly!

Hi and congrats on your pregnancy, I experienced the same thing under my right arm during my pregnancy...my ob requested an ultrasound, the ultrasound detected a "palpable mass" but no "tumor" (they were checking for breast cancer) -- I was sent to a breast specialist who felt the "lump" and because it was not something she could grab onto (should feel like a pea) and it was tender (she said most breast cancer is not initially painful) she told me with confidence that it was excess breast tissue and lumpy because of mammory glands and breat tissue changes due to pregnancy....some women can even lactate from this "lump" or growth...if you look at a medical picture of a breast you will notice that the tissue goes up under your arms...I remember reading so many terrible things on-line when I was waiting to see the specialist so I just thought I would write to try to ease any concern....of course you have to get it checked out, but hopefully it is only breast tissue, sensitive because of your pregnancy...good luck to you -- btw, after the 2nd trimester the sensitivity went away and I nursed my baby fine & now the lump is gone....

Get it checked out sooner than later -- good luck!
