Hi Mommies-
My daycare provider (she's at home) wants all her kids to get the flu vaccines. She has a couple of babies there under the age of 6 months that can't get vaccinated yet. One of them is her child. She has 4 or 5 full time kids (including mine) and 1 or 2 part time kids. I'm kind of on the fence on whether or not to get my son the shot. I think I was kind of leaning for not getting it just to save him the pain of the shot. How necessary do you guys think this is? Thanks for your time.

What can I do next?

These decisions can only be made well if the one making them is truly well informed. You can gather sound information from the National Vaccine Information Center's website as well as from Dr. Mercola's website. I would read everything I could from at least these two sources before making any decisions.

If you are still inclined to believe that the flu is actually more dangerous than the vaccine, you should know that our doctor recently told us that, because these vaccines were fast tracked, the preservatives were doubled. Although many of the ingredients in vaccines are toxic, the preservative, Thimerosal, is 49% organo-mercury by weight. Mercury is the most neurotoxic substance we know. Although it can damage any nerve tissue, it is particularly damaging to developing nerve tissue, according to an abundance of studies, including studies done at the University of Calgary. So, if you do decide to vaccinate, at least be certain to insist that the vaccine be mercury free.

Congress insisted that all recommended early childhood vaccines be mercury free. However, unless the flu vaccine is actually put on the list of 'recommended' or 'required' vaccines for young children, they are still allowed to use a mercury based preservative in them.

I have heard respected doctors claim that there is no more mercury in these shots than we are exposed to in our environment and in our food. The EPA does not agree with those statements. Also, the body has methods for filtering small amounts of mercury in our foods. When injected, the body does not have the same ability to keep mercury away from developing nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, as well as other vulnerable areas.

And, Dr. Mercola also gives warnings about the vaccine sprays given via the nose. I have read articles explaining that an additional ingredient in those vaccines causes genetic mutations.

I trust medical intervention when I have a medical crisis. But, from years of research, I am convinced that the artificial manipulation of the immune system via vaccines is causing neurological, developmental, and autoimmune disorders that are far more problematic than the diseases we are attempting to prevent.

If your doctor tells you that 25 to 50 micrograms of mercury can be safely injected into a child, ask him if he is familiar with the fact that the EPA states that a healthy adult cannot safely manage more than 5 micrograms of mercury in their food on any given day. Also ask him if he knows what metallothionein is and how it binds to mercury in the liver when mercury is absorbed from the intestines. Then ask him how much of the 25 to 50 micrograms of mercury might be able to bind to metallothionein and get filtered through the kidneys before having a chance to damage developing nerve tissue in a young child.

As far as your daycare provider goes, I would simply tell her that if she is willing to take the responsibility of making medical decisions for my children, then I am assuming she will be willing to sign a form taking full responsibility for any adverse reactions my child may have as a result of that decision. Then I would remind her of the amount of harm caused the last time the medical world fast tracked a swine flu vaccine.

My response may seem radical to people who have not investigated this subject for themselves or to people who have only been exposed to the way vaccine information is presented in medical schools, which lacks a great amount of valid information. I'd bet good money that almost all doctors and nurses who are giving these vaccines and arguing for them would have to look up the word metallothionein and would really have to crack the books before they could explain the role it plays in protecting the body from minute amounts of toxic heavy metals. They would really have to study to also know that people are commonly deficient in metallothionein if they have been taking broad spectrum antibiotics or certain anti-siezure medications or suffer from a vitamin B deficiency. I believe that unless a medical practitioner can explain this to you and explain how a child's body can be expected to protect itself from the mercury they are about to inject into a developing child, they should not have the legal right to give that injection. I'll bet your daycare provider has no clue about these things. Who is she to tell you how to protect your children. Her insistence is more likely based in fear than in real information.

Listen to your own instincts, but get real information. The companies that test vaccines are the companies that make billions of dollars selling them. The power these companies wield appears to be far more threatening than the flu. But their power lies entirely on how much we let them think for us and persuade us with scare tactics, partial truths, and pseudo- science. If we don't wise up, it is our children and grandchildren that will suffer.

I don't want to over-press this point, but if we cannot speak out to protect children on this website, then where can we? This is just such an important issue and so many children are at stake.

Hi K.-
I've been wanting to get my son (he's 2 1/2 y/o) the swine flu vaccine but I have 2 concerns: it won't be available before he gets the actual flu, since so many kids already have it now and the shots haven't gotten to the area yet, and also apparently some of the multidose vials from some of the manufacturers contain thimerosol, which is the mercury containing preservative supposedly linked to autism. I don't necessarily believe the link has been proven, but why risk it if you can get the shot without it and also if your child isn't high risk anyway, the actual swine flu doesn't seem that severe. So I'll wait and see where we are when the shot becomes available. We are definitely getting the seasonal flu shot though. And the pain is really not bad at all, it's a small dose and short needle, so that should be the least of your worries. Good luck with your decision!

I'm still on the fence, so watching your responses closely. I just wanted to say that I've heard from my daycare that the swine flu is more severe for kids under age 2. That made me wonder about getting the H1N1 vaccine for my 16 month-old, but I don't think my peds office has any yet so I haven't had to decide.

Everyone has an opinion on this, and I personally hadn;t thought about it, so I guess I wasn't planning to get my kids that vaccine. They have btoh had the regular flu shots already though. I will tell you that my youngesthad to have a minor surgery about a week ago and while I was in the recovery area with him I overheard a conversation between two nurses where they said they were NOT getting it, or getting for their children. They didn't say why, but they are in the medical profession, so that says something me, and they were speaking to eachother in a private conversation so I'm sure they were being very honest.
