I just want to start off by stating I did read the post re: swine flu & pulling kids out of school. My question is about a Pump it Up birthday party. I do realize we are exposed everywhere we go but there are certain places that I would consider probably more "germy" than others, this being one of them. I am very interested in everyone's thoughts & would you allow your child to attend given the recent school closings. Thanks in advance for the advice.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses. As of right now, we are planning on allowing him to attend. I am still not completely comfortable with it but I'm also not comfortable with my son riding his scooter! I plan to bring antibacterial wipes & using them frequently. Thanks for the Mommy Advice! Always appreciated.

yes i would attend. i don't let fear rule my life and letting this flu rule your life is doing just that. use common sense, but this should be fine.

Personally, I would attend. My guess is that they are doing extra measures to prevent the spread of this otherwise sales would suffer. Honestly, there haven't been that many cases and it appears that this strain is really not that different from seasonal flu. Just be sure to wash hands often, sanitize, etc and I think you'd be fine.

It seems the cases in the US are under control because they are caught early and we have a supply of tamiflu. So the risk is up to you.

I am keeping my 22 month old away from Gymboree right now because I don't want her exposed. I feel at this young of an age I don't want her to take those meds if I can prevent it. The play areas can't clean enough for a virus and it can spread easily from one cough or sneeze. I personally would not take my kids.

I too know it is everywhere, but if they are asking you not to take your kid to school, why would you take them to a confined space full of kids you don't know who cannot contact you if the flu is contracted? Just my opinion.

i just think closing schools and cancel events are just making people freaking out and be scary but theres nothing to be scared of, yes there are people dying in mexico but not mainy from this, they have the flu and other health problem

just take the precautions like any other flu and everybody will be fine.

I have a best friend whos daughter is having her birthday at Pump It Up next weekend and I really dont plan on going with all that is happening. Its really better to be safe than sorry in my opinion. In my life I have never seen FWISD close schools unless it was very icy outside so if they are trying to stop this from spreading I am going to do my part and stay at home with my son. Good luck with your decision.

I agree w/the other mom...don't let this rule your life. Take extra precautions, but let the kids have fun.
