Swimming Classes for 11Month Old

I have my child in a great daycare program, but as a working mom I realize my daughter is getting all her activities with other caregivers. She is now 11 months old and I would like to enroll in some kind of parent/child swimming class available on weekends. Is this appropriate for her age? Anywhere on the Main Line? or maybe somewhere near Lafayette Hill/ Chestnut Hill?

What can I do next?

Hi, I was put into a swimming class when I was 8 months old. I screamed my head off at first bur then I loved to swim. I swam competively for 13 years. Please also think of joining our local mommy group www.B..com We have playdates, mom night outs, message boards, support groups. Hope to see you there.

During the school year there is a program at Plymouth Whitemarsh HS on Saturday mornings. It's great to get the young ones comfortable with water and awakens the parent's role in water safety.

Enjoy!

American Academy of Pediatrics aap.com has recommended children 3 and over to take swim lessons. Lessons too early can lead to not enough healty fear of the water, swallowing enough water at this age can result in a water toxicity {diluting the blood} etc.
Hopefully another activity will work out better :]

YMCA is perfect for that. Lily's age is perfect as well. Have fun

The Upper Main Line YMCA has some great parent child classes. I would check out any YMCA that is close to you.

Try the YMCA or YWCA - whichever one is near your home. I did classes with my older son at the Y when he was about that age and they were great.

This is a little further than the areas you requested, but the Ambler YMCA has a lot of swim classes. I think they start at 6 months old. My kids took swimming there for years (and, when older, maybe 4 or so, at our local high school). It's just minutes from Joshua Road, maybe 10 minutes from Lafayette Hill. There may be a Y closer to you that offers classes, and if you're looking on the Main Line, there's also the JCC in...Haverford, maybe? Good luck!
