Hi, moms. I'm thinking about doing mom/baby swim lessons, either at a swim school or maybe with a smaller, private group. Just curious what your experience was with baby swim lessons. How old was baby and can you recommend a program/instructor?

I will do infant classes with my 1 yr old but I just do classes through the city. I did them with her older brother. Mainly now its about getting them use to the water and its really just fun and I will be the one working one on one with her. Then the teacher does fun games and guides us in water activities.
I am a huge believer in ISR (Infant Swim Resources). Both my boys took lessons....they are private, one on one and is a commitment, but WELL WORTH IT! One son took at a year old, the other was 2 (as I heard about it when he was a little older). Life saving! My one year old is now 3 and swims across the pool, down to the bottom....you name it! He is very comfortable in the water and it gives us peace of mind....especially considering all the pools in Arizona!! If you want more information, let me know and I will get you details. How exciting for you and your baby. We started taking our son to Hubbard School on the west side 101 and Thunderbird. We started the lessons at 6 months and so far he has enjoyed them. It has been 3 weeks since he's gone. Since the 1st lessons are so basic and they work with such a small age they try to stick to the lesson plans however know that babies don't always go by schedule and will work individually with the parents and babies to make the most of their lessons. We also enjoy his instructer Chase, he interacts with both parents and babies. They charge $75 a week and will pro-rate if the month is short or a lesson is skipped.
I took my kids to SwimKids USA in Tempe. It is on the corner of Guadelupe and the Price Freeway. They have all types of lessons for babies and kids. They have awesome instructors and the teacher to student ratio is low. They have been around for a long time and know what they are doing. They teach survival first! My kids loved it!

We did the infant swim resource program with ours. They do babies regularly. I think the website is www.infantswim.com or you can google ISR or something. It's a private lesson for 10 minutes 5 days/week. It seems like a lot of money for just 10 minutes but when I consider how much money I spent on other swim programs that didn't work, it actually probably would have saved me money. I loved it! It's a survival program that teaches swim/float/swim sequence. our instructor was Angie Knox who was great.

My two year old took ISR lessons and is VERY capable in the water. They take students 6 months to 6 years. They aren't a "swim" school as they teach children life saving aquatic survival skills. You can get information at www.infantswim.com and even look up instructors in your area. I will be having my 7 month old enrolled as soon as it warms up a bit. Good luck!
