I think I was around that age, maybe closer to 10, when I started reading them. I can't quite remember either, but oh did I love those books!
hi Moms,
my daughter is 8 yrs old and an avid reader. i have my entire collection of Sweet Valley Twin books saved for her. I'm trying to remember if they are appropriate for her age? I'm going to read a couple to try and get a feel for them, but there's no way I can preread them all. Any of you remember?
Thanks!

I too had this series when I was younger!! Loved it!!
I believe the Twin series was they were in about middle school & the SV High series was high school. I don't remember there being anything alarming in the Twin series, you could always give her the first one & kind of read it together... sharing the book & go from there.
Sweet Valley Twins is "OK" for her age....Sweet Valley High is not. I read them around age 10 or so myself (because honestly I think they were just coming out then....like the original prints were 1986/87- ha) -- on Amazon the Reading Level listed for the SWT books is 9-11.
I honestly stole my mom's love novels by middle school because I was "bored" with all my books and had already read every young adult/teen book in our middle school and community library....just keep an eye on her if she is an avid reader :)
Yes, the Twins are geared toward that age group. High is more for tweens/teens. I used to love those and actually forgot about them! Guess I'll have to go shopping at my dad's house and get mine for my 9 yr old :) Thanks for reminding me!
my 9 yr old LOVES them! And also baby sitters club books and Laura Ingalls Wilder books. lol
I do think they are ok, but I would still read one of them and make the judgement for YOUR child and HER maturity level / understanding... Once you read one, they are all similar... But there are some topics like the one that they "run away" that you may want to talk about how silly that was and a better way to handle it would have been..... Let the books open the door to conversations and let her know that if there is anything that she doesn't understand or she's wondering about, that she can come ask and you will answer the question. :-)
Yeah for books that we used to read that are getting popular again!
Of course it depends on your daughter, but I personally would wait another year or two. The twins were 11 (in sixth grade), if I remember correctly, and Jessica was part of a clique that included girls who were older. My primary issue with these books is that I felt there was quite a bit of catty, mean-girl behavior, especially with Jessica's group of girls (were they called the Unicorns? I can't remember.).
Also, I do remember one book where the twins get their periods for the first time. The older girls in the group were complaining about PMS symptoms at one point in that one.
