Sweet Tooth Out of Control!

I don't know what my problem is... hormones, or stress, or what... But my baby is almost 8 months old and since I've been nursing if I don't get chocolate or some sort of sweet something every day I feel like I'm gonna lose it! In the past I would occasionally have the 3pm choco-craving at work, but it's soooo much worse now. Like I'm still preggo, crazy craving!!! If anything I've lost too much weight after my baby and from BFing. But I just worry because the sweet stuff is not so good for me . . . I know. Anyone else experienced this post-baby? I've also noticed that after having a baby when period-time comes, it's twice as bad. I never experienced the typical PMS chocolate cravings in the past... weird!

What can I do next?

This is my life right now! I didn't know it happened to others as well post pregnancy... I never liked eating sweets until I got pregnant and started craving for sweets .. candy to be specific. Now my son is a year old but I still have sweet cravings. I just LOVE desserts or anything sweet. I have put on a lot of weight because of this.
What I do is to drink lot of water whenever I feel like eating something sweet. I also sometimes drink Propel (vitamin water) which is sweet tasting. Rest of the times, I just eat what I want (no wonder I am putting on weight!) ;)

I like Nips hard candy. They're 30 calories a piece and I can suck on it for a long time as compared to a chocolate candy bar that has more calories and goes down my throat a lot faster! (Some of the other flavors are peanut butter, coffee and caramel.) Yummy! It's all about moderation. I think one or two of these hard candies a day isn't going to hurt you any in any unhealthy way.

Of course you could try hard candy with artificial sweetners, but I don't know if you eat food with artificial sweetners.

Another idea might be to walk to the store (if possible) and only buy one or two fun size chocolate bars from the bulk section. (I have a Jewel a few blocks away and I've done that before. I push the kids in the stroller (when they were younger) and headed to the store for items for dinner, or milk, etc... and a small amount of chocolate from the bulk section. Hey! I got exercise in, got the kids out, and got my fix of chocolate!

I hope this helps!

I have found a strong correlation between mineral deficiencies and sugar cravings. I believe there is a scientifically documented correlation between chocolate cravings and calcium deficiencies.

Find a good, balanced mineral supplement and start taking it. See what happens.

Yep, whenever I get really stressed out I want sweets sooo flipping bad. I found some things will curb it, like coconut. Trust me if there was a cure for it I would totally take it. Especially now that I am on a no sweets diet, yikes. Maybe some of the other mama's will come up with some good ideas on how to kick it.

My new sweet tooth remedy is frozen grapes. They are cold, refreshing and give me the sugar that I am craving. I know that it is not chocolate but they might just help you out.

That's me RIGHT NOW because it's the first day of my (stupid) period. Had a soft baked cookie for lunch, getting ready to grab an ice cream sandwich (a MINT ice cream sandwich, YUM) and say TO HELL WITH IT, bring on the empty calories!! I know after today I'll have satisfied my sweet tooth, so I really don't worry about going overboard ;) If you restrain yourself too long, you'll give in eventually anyway, so don't fight it. Besides, chocolate is good for your heart :)

Yes, I had an ice cream problem at one point, I always felt like I needed a small bowl or something else sweet every night after dinner. Finally I just stopped buying it, and within a week or so, the craving for it actually stopped...it was like I just got it out of my system. Now, if I want something sweet I usually eat a piece of dark chocolate and that really satisfies my craving. It was definitely a stronger craving when I was nursing, all those extra calories my body was burning made me all the more hungrier. I don't think there's anything wrong with having just a little sweet everyday, moderation is key.

Same thing happened to me, including losing too much weight. At one point, I even ate condensed milk right from the can; so gross! I didn't have a a sweet tooth before pregnancy and it went away maybe 2.5 years after giving birth. The one thing I would caution about is tooth decay. I had never had a cavity in my life until this year, and I'm pretty sure it was due to all the sugar.
