Sweat Stains?? - Odessa,TX

Okay moms, this is kinda embarrassing for me to ask, but for some reason I seem to get stains on shirts in the armpit area. I bathe daily, use deodorant, and wash my clothes. So, can any of you tell me what is going on? I don't think I sweat very much, I use Secret clear gel deodorant, and wash my clothes with Tide, if that helps. But each time after I get my clothes out of the dryer, they will have light yellowish brown stains- only in the armpit area. These stains only get darker the more I wear my clothes. When they get noticable, I have to throw out my shirts and get new ones. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

This happens to me too... but I don't throw away my shirt, I would soak the armpit area with a stain remover, work it up using my hands, repeat the process then I wash it in the washer.

I have read online that it may be the deodorant that causes the staining....

Have you tried to soak your clothes in some oxy-clean it works wonder on others stains it just might work for this one. I soak those really bad white socks in it overnight and they come out real clean with out using bleach.

I have this problem too especially when I wear my no-iron shirts from Coldwater Creek.
It is the anti-perspirant part (aluminum) in the deodorant that causes this as already noted by Karen N. Once the shirt is dried, heat is applied and the stain is set. It is extremely difficult to get out after that. Like you say, it will only get darker every time it is dried afterward. So I, too, am going to try the Yellow Out. I have not heard of that so hope I can find it.
I was told recently that rinsing the underarm area in cold water after wearing and before washing will stop the stain. I started doing this recently but can't really say yet that it worked for me.
Because I know it is from the aluminum in my deodorant, I have been resorting to using baby powder but only when I know I am not going to sweat much. With the hot weather we are having now, baby powder isn't a desirable solution. So I am also going to try to locate the Jason's natural deodorant. I guess it is only called deodorant because it does not have the anti-perspirant in it (aluminum byproduct). So it might not be any more effective than baby powder but definitely worth a try.
Great question to ask and I definitely have some different products to try!

Most people can get away with a deodorant. This is for odour only. Ant-perspirents are used for sweating. Try going to a health food store and see what they recommend. I have heard of natural products that are very good for this problem. Good luck.

Do not use bleach on these stains they will react with the proteins and set the stain. There is finally a stain remover that takes out underarm perspiration stains. It's called PitStop and it removes with ease the ugly stains that all detergents and stain removers claim to do but can't. You can buy it online at www.armpitstainremover.com

I found it easier to switch deodorants than detergent for some reason. When I use Dove Ultimate Clear, I don't get the stains. It is a white bar but it goes dries clear. Just be careful putting your shirt on or put it on after donning your shirt so you don't get the white streak down your ribs.

It looks like the rest was addressed in previous posts. Good luck!

Don't be embarassed, it's less about sweat than about a reaction between your deodorant and detergent :-( sucks, I know.

I don't have any miracle fixes... I'll try "yellow out" pp suggested. I have found, however, that waiting for my deodorant to dry before putting my clothes on and especially avoiding the old reach-up-into-the-shirt-to-apply maneuver helps a lot.

Your deodorant is made with aluminum and it's the aluminum that is staining. I recently started using Jason's (brand) natural deodorant. It works pretty well. I tried Tom's (brand), it made me feel sticky.
