J.,
We swaddled my daughter well into her 8th month... she slept so much better! And, since my daughter was born just about a year before yours (10-31-05), I can remember this time last year and I was not ready to give up the swaddling, either. In fact, in June, we were cooling her room down at night very cold so that we could still swaddle!
I don't know if there is ever a "too late" to stop time, but eventually, she got so big that she got really hard to swaddle and would try to get out of it. It was very tough to get her to go to sleep for a while, because she was already crawling and when we could finally get herself out of the swaddle in bed, then she started "exploring" when I'd put her down. It was like for what seemed like (at the time) forever... but, in retrospect, I think it was only about a week and half...
I don't think she'll get used to it, other than the feeling of comfort and my daughter eventually worked out how she comforted herself on her own and seemed to like her freedom.
