Question for sushi connoisseurs.
What veggie roll can I order that doesn't have that strong bold fishy taste? Do I dare ask to keep the seaweed out of the roll? I have only gone a few times to try sushi and I think since I do not know what to order I always end up ordering something way to strong for me. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Too funny - I don't eat sushi. Not because of the raw fish but because of the seaweed! Ick. I do eat raw oysters and lightly seared tuna.

Get "Inari Sushi."
There is no "nori" (seaweed or raw fish in it).

All and most sushi has nori in it and around it.
And/or raw fish or seafood.
It just is.
It is sushi.

If you don't like the nori, then you need to order something without it.
Sushi menus, very typically have pictures of the sushi a restaurant serves.

Nori... is, a "vegetable." It is seaweed. An ocean green.

Why bother? Seaweed seems to be an important part of the cuisine.

If you don't like fish or seaweed, eat something that isn't sushi. Most sushi restaurants serve edamame, tempura, or noodle dishes.

Get a crunchy roll...where you have tempura battered, fried shrimp or fried something inside. That always tastes less fishy. I like the spicy tuna roll too bc the spicy sauce is so yummy.

Sorry but if it doesn't contain fish, it isn't actually sushi, it's just rice and vegetables. Your best bet for a sushi wannabe is a California roll - imitation crab meat, avacado, and cucumber.

As others have pointed out, there are some fun nigiri-style sushi. You can order the inari, which is a slightly sweet tofu pouch with rice inside.

Most sushi restaurant I go to also offer bento lunches with different entree options, or noodle/broth soups, etc. Some nights, when my husband isn't up for the sushi, he'll order off that menu and I'll get my favorite sushi rolls, Everyone's happy.

Most maki sushi (rolls) contains nori (seaweed) which will give it a "fishy" taste, even if the roll only contains vegetables and no fish.
Some restaurants have a roll or two that are wrapped in a thin omlette or cucumber instead and don't usually have nori.
It is not good form to ask for them to leave out the nori - some chefs may be offended by this.

Most places also serve nigiri sushi, which is a small mound of rice with a piece of fish on top. I have never seen veggie nigiri, but many places have nigiri with egg on top.

Last but not least there is inarisushi, which is a tofu skin pouch filled with rice (and sometimes veggies). I don't like it, but it has neither fish nor nori.

Honestly, if you are grossed out by fish or the taste of nori you probably shouldn't order any sushi. Most sushi places (even the conveyor belt ones) offer other food options such as tempura (battered and deep fried veggies or shrimp), fried tofu, chicken or pork katsu and sometimes terriyaki, udon and other warm items.

Good sushi fish btw. does not taste fishy. Most fish will only taste or smell fishy when it is not fresh (with the exception of some types of fish such as mackerel).
A good fish to start out with, if you really want to try sushi, is salmon or tuna.
Good luck.

How about a dynamite roll or a crunchy crunchy roll? They have shrimp tempura in them. I don't find the seaweed has a fishy taste.

I always ask for spicy tuna or other strong flavors, to drown out at seaweed/fishy flavor. That's about the only way I can choke down sushi. Lol.

Of course, that doesn't help wi a veggie version...
