I'm wondering how other single mothers have managed with debt and just trying to stay afloat, especially during this uncertain time when the economy is doing poorly. I'm worried these days and I'm wondering if I can even make it through this rough period. I'm interested in ideas, resources and encouragement.

What can I do next?

I just wanted to offer my encouragement :-) It is a rough time for everyone and I think we are all a little nervous and worried. One idea for exrta cash is to sell things on craiglist - especially baby stuff sells really well. It's easy to do and cost basically just the time to do it. You may also try some babysitting if you have time... for some extra cash. Good luck to you!!

Try applying for WIC (women infant children) they help with basic food items like milk, eggs, cheerios, & cheese. You have to qualify but it is worth a shot. It really helped me get back on my feet. When rent is due and you have to choose between paying PG&E or paying for daycare, at least you will have the staples to keep them feed. Trouble is you can't make much money to qualify and they don't take things like rent and daycare bills into consideration. But they are very nice caring women who understand what you are going through.

Hi MW,

have you ever thought of doing a home based business? i have tried several and the one i'm doing now is definitely the best one i've come across.

it's easy, fun and you make money while helping people! you can own your own biz for $39. so, would $500-$1000 a month help? that is what i'm making working only a few hours a week. how about $10,000 a month? my neighbor is making much more than that and she has been doing the biz for about a year.

let me know if you are interested and i can send you more info!

wishing you all the best in 2009!

I don't have much solid advice as I'm in the same position. I can tell you that journalling is a great way to keep your thoughts contained and to sort out inventive ways of coping with the concerns.

Stay positive and cherish the love and simple moments with your little girl. This is going to be a tremendous year for everyone and I do have faith that things will turn around. Just stay positive.

I'm rootin' for you, mama. :) Prayers and blessings for good job and enough money to get you through. We can do it. I don't know how, but we can.

You have to just pray and know that God will give you everything you need to survive. It also helps to start putting away a little bit. Even if it is $10.00 a month, it is something. Also, I cut down on luxuries and cut extra's ie. Cable extra's, cell phone extra's etc. I am a single mother and I have my 70 & 80 year old parents as support. Talk to people often and our church has a great series starting this week on steps to financial success, how to save in 2009. Good luck and I know it is hard, but you are doing a great job as a single mom!!

Hi MW.
I work with a company called Primerica. We help people come up with a plan to help them get out of dept and plan for the future. I know the economy is not at it's best. But with that comes opportunity. You can check out the web site at www.primerica.com. We try to make the uncertain, certain.
