OKay ladies here I am again asking about c-section surgery. It has been 32 weeks since my son was born and I am seeing the doctor today who perfomed the c-section, as I am still not completely healed from the c-section. It was open and slowly healing from the inside out. It was pink around the edges and looked like a huge wet scab that wouldn't scab over and would bleed if I wiped it for the longest time. I was on 2 rounds of antibiotics and the obgyn that I have been seeing finally said two weeks ago that he is confused as to why it is taking this long for it to heal. Um no kidding, right? So he told me to male an appointment with the doctor that did the incision so I could get a second opinion and they might have to re-open the incision only a few inches then clean it out and sew it back up. My question is that it is almost completely healed and I am thinking that they should still go in and see if there is something there, what do you think? I think that something was preventing it from healing and would like to make sure that it is gone, or needs to be taken care of. What happens when I get pregnant again and this incision site is no good due to what has happened and how long it took to heal? What do you smart ladies think I should do? Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I went to the Doctor today who did the c-section and she looked at it and said that there were some hair follicles in the incision that was keeping it from closing. She had seen it once before and she took care of the other woman and it healed right away. She took a few follicles out and used silver nitrate so I should be healed in a couple of days. Imagine my surprise to find out that I could have had someone looking at it and plucking a few hairs, I could have been healed a couple of months ago, sheesh.

I think 32 weeks is absolutely unacceptable, and I would question why your doctor has let this go for this long. I'm not clear why you have a different doctor than the one who made the incision, but either one should be able to provide adequate post-surgical care. If that's not happening, you need to get another opinion. See the original surgeon immediately if you trust him but this is not right. it's not just about whether you get pregnant again - it's about what's going on in your body right now. The suggestions about a good health work up are good, but I seriously question why that hasn't been done already or, if it has been ruled out as a problem, why more aggressive steps have not been taken to heal you. I would not leave the next appointment until you have a solid plan in place, or a new physician.

First off, I'm so sorry you have had such a hard time healing from your c-section surgery. That must be so difficult, especially with a new baby!
I would definitely continue to seek help until the incision has healed properly! I have had two c-sections. I had a hard time healing from my first c-section (but nothing like you are going through). But my second c-section seemed to be easier and heal faster. I did hear that they actually remove the previous incision area and make a new area to sew together. So, I'm thinking this difficult healing/scarring shouldn't get in the way of your next c-section?

I have a friend who battled this for months & was quite ill thru the process. She ended up being re-opened & cleaned out. She is now healing very well. Hope this helps!

Any chance you're diabetic? Certain underlying medical conditions can result in slow healing of wounds.
Are you overweight? Layers of fat underneath an incision don't "stick together" and the cohesion isn't good.
Are your clothes too tight rubbing against it? that can irritate the skin.
Do you eat too much sugar? Taht can result in fungal type infections that are not affected by antibiotics.
Are you eating a lot of fruits, veggies & protien? Protein helps you heal, fruit & veggies are good for the skin and soft tissues.

I would go with the MD's suggestions if you trust him. But get a complete physical to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

Why the heck has your OB/GYN waited 32 weeks, to now say he is puzzled as to why it is taking this long to heal???

Gosh, 8 months???? Still not healed???

That is totally, not normal.
The Doc should have done something by now.

Ditto Diane B. below.

I have had 2 c-sections.
It did not take this long to heal.
