My daughter is 11 weeks and I am trying to introduce her to formula in order to supplement the breast milk. I have returned to work and I would like to be able to leave bottles of formula for her in case I am not able to pump enough milk for her each day. We tried the Enfamil w/Lipil and she hates it, she spits the nipple out and cries when we give her the bottle. Are there any tips on making a smooth tranistion?

What can I do next?

Congratulations!

My son hated Enfamil, but he took to Similac. Experiment with a few different formulas, your doctor can give you small cans of them as samples so you don't have to shell out $25 on something you'll only make 4 untouched ounces of.

Hi A. it's P. I'm new with mamasourse however I'll be more than glad to help in any way I could. I breast fead all of my kids. First of all it sounds like she has colic. to much air in the stomach. And then I have a question for you, do you keep her wrapped in a blanket, you know that's a sense of security for them still. She's only been out of the belly for a short period fo time. She's still getting adjusted to the outside world. As for the feeding, try putting a nipple over your breast, make sure the hole is big enough. What she enjoys is the closeness she feels when shes laying close to you heart. After you have gone to work she'll take the bottle with the nipple because it will remind her of the closeness she experiences when shes with you. Also babies are more wise now then ever she is very aware of the adjustment thats taking place and thats her way of saying I don't like it not one bit.

Hello A.,

If your daughter will not take Enfamil w/Lipil, have you ever tried a soy formula? I am currently breastfeeding my son who is 13 weeks old and occassionally supplimenting with formula. For the first 2 1/2 months I gave him Isomil soy (any brand of soy would work, in the past I used Enfamil soy formula on my girls) then I switched him to Enfamil w/ Lipil. My son still eats the formula slowly.

Good Luck,
J. W

I have a daughter that is also 3 months. I started supplimenting with Carnation Good Start. I tried other formula but they were too thick. The carnation Good start Supreme with DHA AND ARA breaks down the easist and I think that she digests it the best. Try that and what happens. Thanks D.
