my son is 2.5- when he urinates into his diaper more often than not it will leak because he pees so much each time. he doesnt drink excessive amounts of liquid through out the day to cause this much urination- im worried about diabetes-any advice or same stories?
I would check to make sure it is not diabetes just to put your mind at ease. My daughter has type 1 diabetes. I noticed symptoms but ignored them at first. It is a simple test. Good luck
My daughter is the exact same age and has been doing the same thing. I don't think you need to be worried - I really think that the reality is that these kids are getting bigger and they simply have more urine! Its hard for a diaper to contain the amount of urine passed in a 12 hour period. I use Walmart brand diapers during the day and they work great, but we cannot use them at night. I was using Huggies, and then she started leaking out of those. So, I went to Huggies Overnights (like someone said, they are expensive, but worth it to not have to change pajamas and sheets every night!), but they have worked great for us!
Disposeable diapers are SO absorbent they often feel almost dry to the touch--are you sure they're not already wet first? Hmmmm...I know they make something called diaper doublers for cloth diapers. Kind of like a liner that holds more moisture. Maybe you could try something like that?
We don't have a leakage problem during the day, but my 20 month old pees through his size 6 Huggies diaper at night. Huggies makes an overnight diaper, and we are having better luck with that. It's a bit more expensive, but worth it as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps you could use the overnight diaper during the day?
I'd take him to the doctor for a check up, to put your mind at rest about diabetes.
Some diapers have a lot less absorbency than others. I put the cheaper store brand diapers on my youngest, but my older one needs the more absorbent huggies, b/c really older, bigger kids pee more b/c they eat and drink more.
Maybe you can try to start having him pee on the toilet, you can see how much he goes and how often this way. Their are a lot of factors for diabetes, so if you are really worried and he shows other signs, take him to get a check-up. Diabetes usually also in an increase of thirst as well as frequent urination.
