Sunshine Kids - Radian Car Seat

I think I have narrowed down my decision on a new car seat for my daughter. She will be 1 soon and I will need to move her out of her infant carrier. After researching many different car seats I think I would like to purchase the Sunshine Kids - Radian80 or Radian65. They have a high rating, narrower then other car seats, and can fold for easy transport. Since these run $200-$250 I wanted to get others opinion before I spend the money and order it. You cannot find these in retail stores normally. Do any of you have this car seat or are familiar with it? I would love your feedback. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I ordered the Radian80 carseat from Amazon, so I was able to save on shipping and tax. We ordered the "Super Cool". So far it has lived up to its name. The fabric stays cooler, so I can put my daughter in with out worry if the fabric is too hot, especially in this Arizona heat. And my daughter seems to like it. The car seat is heavy, around 21 pounds, but we don't plan on carrying it around very often. I will say one thing I didn't expect. The LATCH hooks click in like a seat belt instead of a hook, so it is easy to unfasten them with a click of a button, instead of trying to unhook it from the car LATCH hook. If anyone is looking into buying one of these, I would definitely recommend it.

I bought the Radian 80 because I thought it would be easier to take on a plane. Here's the scoop. It doesn't fold that easily so you have to practice. It is VERY heavy so it will not be easy to carry. I'm even thinking about getting a rolly cart because I don't want to carry it along with all my other stuff. Therefore I may as well have gotten a regular seat with a better rating. I could just as easily roll a non-folding seat. Also, if you check out the website www.nhtsa.gov then click "child seat ease of use ratings" (on left), then click "ratings summary" (on the right) you will see that this seat got only 2 stars. Unfortunately, I looked here AFTER I had already bought the seat. You can probably find a seat with a better rating on that sight. If you are buying the radian 80 for convenience, I would recommend against it. Good luck!
ps I would never tell my husband this since he already shelled out $250...oops!

I have two of the Radian65 for my 5 year old and 2 year old girls. We REALLY like them and highly recommend them. We purchased them a year and half ago and have used used them for airplane travel and they work wonderfully on the plane. My only complaint is the weight of carrying them thru an airport. However, we just found a backpack style carrier for them and that should make it easier to get around. They are very easy to install as well. As I said, we think that they are great and HIGHLY recommend them.

Both my friend and my sister have it and they love it!! It's nice because of the narrowness of it. The more kids and carseats you have to fit in a car, the harder it gets but this seat allows them to fit easily. They both have spoken very highly of it. Hope you enjoy it too!

C., we have a Radian seat in one car and a Britax Roundabout in the other car. We are happy with both seats. My daughter seems to enjoy both of the seats too. The Radian definitely is smaller in the car than the Britax. We traveled via plane with the Radian first and found it quite heavy even in the carry bag. For our last trip we decided to take the Roundabout. The Roundabout was definitely more bulky to take with us, but it was lighter to carry. If you don't travel much or don't mind the weight I think you will be very happy with the Radian seat.

I have one of these for my son, age 4.5. The other year we had to abandon the Britex roundabout since he was too tall, but not yet heavy enough to be in a booster. It is nice that it is so narrow and really easy to fasten and unfasten (for adults). My son is just now able to do it himself. I know that it folds, but I have never done this, and it is heavy. I am sure that if it were folded properly it would transport easier. We have been very happy with this seat, and if we had purchased this from the beginning might have saved ourself several other seats purchased between the two children. My 7 year old is in the Britex booster with the winged headrest and we love it! Our son will be heading to one of these this summer. If you would like one used we might consider selling ours. In any case, you can't go wrong with this seat.

Best of luck!

We first purchased the Britex Marathon upon the recommendation of some friends. We decided we needed a second car seat for when my parents came for the winter and bought a Radian80. I think my daughter tends to like the Radian80 better, but that might be because when whe is forward facing, she is less reclined than in the Britex. I agree that the Radian80 is really heavy (22 lbs), but I think it is a lot easier to install and un-install in cars especially with the included reclining wedge (takes me 5-10 min vs 15-20 min with the Britex). You can check out the Radian 80 at Baby, Mother, & More at SE corner of Southern & Gilbert.
