Sunscreen with Bug Repellant?

Does anyone know of a sunscreen that includes a bug repellant (30% DEET is what my pediatrician recommended) that is good to use on our kiddos? My little guy is 18 months and it seems that no matter how fast we go in the jogging stroller, he's still getting mosquito bites... I'd love to know if you've found one! Thanks!

(UPDATE: My pediatrician said that the AAP recommendation was 30% DEET for a child my son's age. I think they said this because of the fear of the West Nile Virus here. Of course, never use it on infants under 2 months. Here's a link to an article on the AAP site: http://aapnews.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/e2003...)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, all! After hearing your responses and reading some more, I'm going to keep our sunscreen and bug repellant separate... Overloading on sunscreen isn't bad, but overloading on bug repellant is. Thanks!

I've seen some at Walmart, but the news said yesterday not to keep re-applying if it has deet in it because they is dangerous.

I know AVON sells a bug repellant and sunscreen in one.
I used to buy it when my Mother in Law was selling AVON but she no longer does.
It works really good so if you know of anyone selling AVON, try it out.

I will confirm what Cindy C. said.I just saw my pedi yesterday and asked about this and he said to never use something with both sunscreen & bug repellent. You need to reapply sunscreen and if your using a combo you will end up giving your child to much DEET.

I don't have any suggestions .. but I thought you were NOT suppossed to use anything with DEET in it .. and certainly not 30%! Perhaps someone else will have some suggestions! :-)

I've recently heard a combined product might not be the safe way to go. In most cases, you don’t need to apply DEET as often as sunscreen. You can certainly reapply sunscreen several times a day in order to get protection from the sun that you need, but too much DEET can cause an adverse reaction. I would research this much more before using a combined product.

Well to answer your question, Bullfrog makes one with both sunblock and bug spray. http://www.bullfrogsunblock.com/ I believe I saw it last in Kroger, but I am sure other mass retailers sell it. I am not sure of the Deet percentage though. Be careful though because you usually need to apply sunblock more often than bug spray, so the ones that come mixed together may not be a good idea. I have personally been using OFF Family Spray for bugs, and Banana Boat 50spf for sunblock. This is working well for my 17 month old son.

It's funny your pedi said 30%. I asked mine about it and he said get 10%. I guess all doctors are different. Thanks for the article link though. I will definitely ask again.

I was actually talking to my husband about this very thing yesterday - how great it would be to find a suncreen with some sort of bug repellant in it. We can't run fast enough to keep the mosquitoes off us. Man they are crazy bad this year!

Some things to try - a few drops of lavender essential oil in the palm of your hand when you are plopping the sunscreen in it. It's the most gentle repellent. You might also find some recipes using essential oils online. just keep it really diluted for a wee one! (like only a couple of drops) Good Luck!!
