My daughter is in summer camp and it has been little rough for her skin. She tries to put on sunscreen but is not enough. We are getting darker day by day. The skin is of uneven shape.

Is there any product that can help the kids with sunburn sun effect after the fact?

Thanks for the help and advice!

VG

I use Walgreen's Aloe Vera Gel (which I keep in the fridge and is inexpensive) and ibuprofen to treat. Usually gone the next day. I was also thinking she may need help applying.

You can't reverse the sun damage, but you can use pain relievers like solarcaine.

I might suggest for you to use zinc oxide (you can buy Desitin or store brand) with 40% zinc oxide. I know it sounds funny to use diaper cream, but I've shopped around and you can't buy anything with more zinc oxide without a perscription. I put this on my dd when she's going to be outside all day. It's a little white, but it stays on for days and nothing gets through it. You can even put in on the night before, but get an old pair of sheets on her bed since it can be a little thick. On my dd's face and my face I use the zinc cream but I put some dark base makeup mixed in so her face isn't so white. Again - if you're in a rush in the morning, you can put it on the night before. It really works. I've saved so many sunburns this way. Also, if you put it on the night before, it sinks in and it's not so white.

Raw coconut oil is the absolute best "after sun" product. It takes the pain away and prevents peeling! We use it every time a person in our family gets a sunburn and the burn is GONE within a day or two. Unlike most oils, coconut oil doesn't hold the heat in, thus continuing the burn damage. Great stuff!

Aloe vera gel, calomine lotion, yogurt.

If she is having difficulty with applying the sunblock, maybe she can ask a counselor. That's what they are there for.

Good luck to you and yours,

hi...the best sunscreen for kids i think is hte mustela spf 50...it also received a high rating from the 'environmental working group' data base. i use it. it is waterproof and good for sensitive skin...

i live in a hot climate almost all of my life.
i would share with your daughter to put on sunblock when she wakes and then every 2 hours....
also to wear a hat....

aloe vera is a great soother for after.

Banana Boat has a product that's called After Sun lotion, and it has aloe vera in it, along with vitamins etc. It is great for sunburns and heals the skin quickly.

Also, what SPF sunscreen is your daughter using? My family burns really easily, so we get the kind that is SPF 70+ works great for us!

When me or my family get burnt we use a Arbonne lotion. It is wonderful. It even helps take the sting out. And it helps the burn go away faster. If I use it right away it is best as I can get sick from too much sun. If you know anyone that sells it it's called RE9 Advanced Hydrating body lotion. I use their sun screen too and it's the best I have found anywhere. Aloe does not work for me most of the time. I am very pail and when I get burnt it's BAD!

You may need to sign a permission form, but have the camp counselors help apply the sunscreen. Look for one labeled 50+ SPF (I don't think they can label them any higher than that anymore).

I can tell you as a very fair skinned person, that even with wearing sunscreen every day, my freckles get darker every summer. Sunscreen helps for sure, but it never blocks it all.

I agree with the others on aloe vera. Don't spend a fortune on after-sun products. Plain old aloe vera gel will help.

We use Burt's Bees After Sun Lotion if we get a little "too much" sun. I love it. It smells great, isn't greasy, absorbs well and is soothing.

I don't really use sunscreen for myself, but when I occasionally do use it for my kids, we only use natural stuff. Since we don't have super-pale skin (we are caucasian, however), it is hard to say what works for all skin types- but I that is what we use- simple, natural stuff... and we don't burn from it at all.

Have you tried the spray-on sunscreen? It can be a little easier to put on by herself.
