I need a good recommendation of sunscreen for my 11 month old and my 4 year old. I don't like the smell and greasiness of most of the products out there. So if someone has tried a sunscreen that is effective, smells good and goes on smoothly without being greasy, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

What can I do next?

My dermatologist recommended Neutrogena with HELIOPLEX because it is a physical blocker that will stay on the skin and not sucked in. He said its the best. But, he also said that NO sunblock can go on a baby until 12 months, but he didn't say why...I hope its not too stinky, I don't think it is, at least from what I remember from last summer.

Do your research. A lot of sunscreens that are made for kids are actually terrible products. California baby and Badger brands are the only ones I will let touch my kids skin!!!

We just switched to Thinkbaby/Thinksport/Livestrong sunscreen after using California Baby Fragrance Free. Both my girls have sensitive skin, and both work great.

It's a physical blocker with no nanoparticles and rates a 1 EWG sunscreen guide. Very light fragrance (not your typical coconut/sunscreen). It absorbs pretty well (better than the California Baby), although it will appear a bit "shiny" due to the zinc.

I use the most common baby formulas on my kids. I don't love them either, but the thick lotions really do protect better than the spray-on kinds, IMO. I also like the stick kind for around the eyes, because it doesn't run into their eyes when they get wet or sweaty.

And, you didn't ask this but - Target sells long-sleeve sunshirts for infants and kids (look online if you don't see them in your store). A long-sleeve sunshirt and a hat are the best protection for any kid. Of course you still need the sunscreen for the bare skin, but it minimizes how much you need to use.

Dr. Oz just had a show on this subject. He said to use something with zinc oxide or titanium oxide. They are natural chemicals and do not get sucked into the skin. There is some question lately on the chemical one on wether or not they cause some endocrine issues.

Based on this website: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ we use Badger brand sunscreen. It is thick and hard to put on, but I figure that's better than cancer. Good luck!

Neutrogena makes a wet/dry application sunscreen that doesn't feel greasy and has an SPF 60.

Sunscreen is fine on babies over the age of 6 months, just be sure to keep it off the 11 month old's fingers.

I work with the doctors who created Proactiv, Rodan+Fields, we make a fabulous sunscreen, it's a lightweight, non-sticky, non-greasy broad spectrum sunscreen. Here's a link for more info, contact me with any questions! https://cfryzel.myrandf.com/Shop/Product/ESBS150
