We like Blue lizard the best. Zinc Oxide based - works wonderful on my ultra fair little red head! The sensitive one and the baby one are the same and we find it works the best.
I have a very fair skinned little blondie who is always getting red! I have tried about 6 diff types of sun screen and each time shes red the next day. have any of you with fair skinned kiddos found a sun screen that REALLY worked? thanks!

E. - your best bet is to use sun protective clothes, swimwear, and hats because you won't have to worry about missed spots or sunscreen washing off. For the rest of her body, try sunscreen wipes or a non-aerosal spray for her scalp (when she doesn't have a hat on). Make sure you do apply a lot of sunscreen and do it often. I am an Arizona native and had skin cancer at age 30 so I know how easy it is to have too much sun expusure. It's great that you are so vigilant - your lessons will be valuable to her all through her life. And, also, set an example by sporting a rashguard shirt yourself at the pool. don't forget the "old-fashioned" sunscreen....cover up. I have fair kids w/blonde hair and blue eyes, I burn fairly easily and my dad can tolerate 10 minutes a day of sun, tops. so, I've always insisted on hats, rash guards (the swim cover ups), no tank tops, etc. My dad goes out only in pants and long sleeves and has been that way since he was a teen. When we are out, sunscreen every 2 hours. also, I "work" them up to short sleeves and shorts. A few minutes more each day in the spring so that by summer they can be out all day with sunscreen.
I'll echo below - be sure whatever you use contains titanium dioxide or zinc oxide and is rated at spf 45 or higher. also, be sure that its not more than 6 months since you bought it. We've got one that I bought in august or september last year and its not giving us the same protection this spring.
Lastly, be sure she's not red because of reacting to the sunscreen. My youngest cannot tolerate avobenzene - and its in almost all the name brand sunscreens sold by Target, Wal-mart etc.
good luck.
I myself am fair skinned. If I forget the sunscreen I get burnt! I have found the sunscreen with the higher SPF is better and I have to reapply it. I can get sunburn just walking outside to the car. I have also found wearing long sleeves helps also.
i am having this problem with 2 of my kids also if you find something let me know however i used bull frog on myself once when i was younger and it worked but havent been able to afford it or really seen it sold any more but here is a remedy i ran across for burns preporation h i know it sounds gross but i used it on my less a yr or so ago when i was on the soccer field for 4 hours i burned real bad and i put it on one night woke up the next morning with almost no pain and put it on again the next night and woke up the next morning feeling just fine no pain at all and i dont think i peeled either 2 of mine got burnt today actually but i was at work and grandma let them out i didnt think about it this morning that she would have them out as long as they were and i had to take them back to my x tonight so if they come back wed and are complainig about it imma put it on them when i get them back
I can't empathize with the fair skinned things, but I am a huge SPF user (it turns out that brown-skinned people are actually more likely to get terminal varieties of skin cancer and less likely to catch it early).
Anyway, the dermatologist told me that people really don't use ENOUGH sunscreen. To really get the SPF listed you'd need like a tablespoon for your face! So, to really get SPF 30 she says to use something huge like 100 and apply a reasonable amount.
Good luck.

No fair skinned kiddos here but we are faithful with sunscreen especially on face and neck. I've found that the zinc oxide creme, dries clear, works great for me.
I have a lot of Native American so I have no issue with burning, I do this re keep wrinkles away and it is a good barrier. It is in a little tub like container, sold for less that $3 and last a long time.
I am the same way.........trust me, you NEED to get SPF 60 or 70. I use those and don't even burn. When I don't, I resemble a lobster. I have learned the hard way not to try to use lesser SPF to get sun, I burned so bad I had to call into work for two days because I couldn't even move and my body was blistering. The pain and risk for cancer is so not worth trying to look tan and beautiful. I have come to embrace the beauty in being a pale skin.
My daughter and I are both very fair and burn easily. I use the Melaleuca sunscreen and have found that it really has helped keep up from getting burned. Not only does it stay on, but it also has vitamins and antioxidants which help rejuvenate the skin.
I have a VERY pale little blondie myself that burns VERY easily.. I have tried everythinggggggg... (And I have to be super careful because when he gets to much sun, he'll get eye infections).. The only thing I have found that works good is Vanicream..It's spf 35.. A MUST is putting it on your child 15 minutes BEFORE going outside... (I've forgotten to put it on before going outside and do it when we get to the pool and he will burn because it hadn't soaked it yet)... and I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS reapply it every 1-1.5 hours...Good luck! I 110% know how it feels to of tried everything...
