I will be going back to work this summer. I two boys in 5th and 4th grade. They are too old for daycare, but not ready to be home all day long by themselves. I am wondering if anyone has advice on Summer Programs for them. I don't want to spend a fortune, but would be willing to pay for a good program. I will be paying for Daycare for my 2 year old so money is kinda tight. Any suggestions.......

What can I do next?

Hi N.,

Do you have a YMCA in your area? They have some good programs for all ages. Or I put my son in The Grove in Inver Grove Heights. Kind of pricey and they only take kids up to age 13. They do a lot of field trips and projects to keep the kids busy. They go swiming every day and get outside quite a bit too.

Good Luck,
L.

does their school have a program?? Our elementary school has a all day summer program....it includes daily activities but also field trips to water park, zoo etc...it is about $125 week. This option is nice because they will already be with kids they know. Or, check with the daycare that you bring your 2 year old too...maybe they have a special summer program for school age kids and perhaps will give a family discount.

Where do you live? In St. Paul, there is a center called WholeChild that does school age care (before and after school).
I would look for a before and after care program either through the public school, community education, daycare or even church in your area.
One option is Discovery Club if they have it by you; it's wonderful but there is a fee.
Good luck with going back to work!

HI N.!

My husband and I own the Primrose School of Woodbury (we're located near Hudson Road and Woodbury Drive). We're a nationally accredited school, offering programs to children 6 weeks to 12 years. We've just launched the 3 themes to our Summer Camp. Summer Camp is open to all children age 4 to 12! If your boys would like to try out Primrose Summer Camp, we're hosting a FREE Sneak Peek on Monday Jan 21st and Mon Jan 28th! Your boys can sign up for a 3 hour session where they'll find out more about the themes and the types of activities they can be part of at Primrose!

Summer Campers can sign up for part-time, or full-time, 4, 8, or 12 week sessions this summer! (I may be biased - but it looks like a LOT of fun!)

Please call me to learn more - and/or to explore the Sneak Peek! ###-###-#### www.primrosewoodbury.com

I was in your shoes a few years ago. As a single mom I couldn't afford a lot. I took my boys to the YMCA summer daycamp program. The kids sell candy bars to help earn money for camp and they also have scholorships for low income families. The boys loved the swimming and activitis. They separate the kids by age groups so they are with kids their own age. They also have a great before and after school program. Check them out. L.
