My DD's usual summer child care facility has informed us that she will not be able to attend this summer as she will have completed 6th grade (even though she won't be 12 until 8/18) She is still not quite mature enough to stay at home alone yet...I'm looking for suggestions for the Euless-Grapevine-Colleyville area or anything y'all can think of...thanks!

What can I do next?

Find a grandma or teenager to either come over or for her to go to their place. It will probably be more fun for her than going to a daycare anyway.

Most daycares will not take kids that age.

I would call the high school guidance counselor for the area, and ask for references of any trustworthy students who would be willing to come to my house. I also have a daughter who is not quite ready to be home alone and I want her to be accountable to someone and not have her running all over town. Find someone who has the same interests as your daughter, who is willing to take her to the pool etc. Another idea is to ask around at your church or synagogue if you go. Ask your youth pastor for ideas. Hope this helps!

I don't live in your area, but you could check into your local Boy's and Girl's Club. Your child can go there during the day and socialize with other children her age, and can also potentially get a big brother/sister that she can hang out with a couple of times per week.
Good luck to you!

Check out sitter city.com. We have had great luck finding a summer nanny on their site. Also Mamsource offers a coupon.

Check with your local park and rec department. They may have a day camp and she might even be old enough to be a helper.

I'm pretty sure that the summer camp at Midway Park elementary in Euless takes kids that are leaving 6th grade and haven't started 7th yet (she may have to be an HEB kid). You might want to check it out. It's for 11 weeks during the summer and it's from 7am - 6pm M-F.

The other place is YMCA.

When I was 14 or 15 I watched a girl like this in my neighborhood. Her mom didn't want her home alone, but also didn't want her with some older lady, so she called me. It was such an easy job for me, and she loved having an older sister-type figure around! Maybe you know someone like this, or go to a church that has someone like this, or maybe even the local high school knows someone like this? You have some time, so wait until you find that perfect girl for her! :)

Hello, I live in the Arlington (close to Euless) area and have a 9 year old daughter, she'll be 10 this June. We live near two established parks and a new park being built in the area as we speak. I don't know how appropriate this is, but I would love to offer my services. We do live in a small house, but I know that my daughter would love to have another girl around during the summer, especially with two younger brothers (7 and 2). We don't have any younger girls living in the neighborhood and that is one of her biggest complaints.

Please, feel free to email me at ____@____.com if you would like to talk further. I look forward to hearing from you!

I have owned a Child Care Center and the thing is that your child is the age kids take the babysitters class at the Y, it's by The Red Cross, and by 12 they are the babysitters. You most likely won't find any type child care for her, you'll have to hire someone privately.

Perhaps between now and the end of May you can start small and start letting her have home alone time. Maybe just while you run to the neighborhood store, less than 30 minutes. As you train her to be responsible she'll become more mature and be able to handle the time better. If you have a good SAHM friend or a neighbor that will help look after her while you're at work it will help you have more peace of mind about it.

It took her nearly 6 months before I could feel okay with leaving my daughter alone for even an hour or two but it had to be done. You can't hire a babysitter for a teen ager, they might be younger than your child...LOL. Really meant in a funny kind of way because my daughter is 30 and still not able to watch herself well.
