Suggestions on Dollhouse for 2 Year Old

My daughter got the Fisher Price Loving Family DOll house from her Uncle when she was 2.

It is great, because we will not have to get a second one as she gets older AND there really are not a lot of small parts... That said by 2 my daughter stopped putting things in her mouth.

My DD has had a Fisher Price dollhouse since she was 2.5. We got it handed down from a friend. I don't see it on their site at the moment, but they may have changed the product. Whatever you get, get one that folds up so that it's slim and stashable when not needed.

Hubby and I gave ODD a Calico Critters house with several critter sets just before she turned 3. Even at that age, I put some of the smaller pieces in a ziplock bag until she's older. She does love the set and there are lots of add-ons for Calico Critters.

Santa brought my daughter the Fisher Price Little People Dollhouse when she was about 28 months old. (That may be the same as the "My First Dollhouse," not sure.) I think the age on it was 2-5, instead of age 3. When you push a button, the doorbell rings. Pushing the toilet makes it flush. The washer makes a washing noise when pushed. It folds up for easy storage. It's very cute, and it was about $40 at Toys R Us. They had a custom version avail just there, but Target had another custom version of it at Christmas time there. We still have it, but it's about outgrown (at almost 5). The truth is tha she was closer to 3 before she really enjoyed playing with it as a dollhouse is intended. Prior to that, she mostly liked to to push the buttons. No parts of it were choking hazards. The smallest parts were the "Little People" who came with the dollhouse.

I bought my daughter her doll house when she had just turned three. Her birthday is in Oct and she got one for Christmas. I looked at the My First Doll House because it does say 2 and up on it. But to me it looked very similar to Little People. We love Little People toys, but I just wanted something a little different. It also looked like a toy my daughter would outgrow it really fast. And I wanted my investment to last.

So I got her the Loving Family Doll House. The food is small, but most of the other pieces are larger. I like that the house is large and folds up. I don't like that you have to buy most of the furniture separate. We have just filled it little by little. It's my "go to" gift idea for her.

We have several friends who have two year olds. They all seem to love that doll house. I pick up the food before little ones come over, just because I am never sure who is past the "mouthing" stage and who isn't.

Look on craigslist, I just sold a nice big victorian dollhouse with furniture (fisher price) for $25. There are lots of great deals out there!

Is this doll house your passion for her or has she expressed and interest in having a doll house. She is very young. My 2 year old neice love cooking sets and not doll houses. She loves dolls but doesn't like Barbie's yet. She prefers bigger dolls 16" - 18" dolls she can carry around but not baby dolls. She really doesn't like baby dolls.

I would probably hold off another year or two before investing in a doll house.

I have to second the Little People ones. You can find great sets at resale or consignment shops that are like brand new. My daughter has her entire room filled with tables outlining the walls and they are covered by Little People. She thinks they are the best thing ever! Daddy gets his own Little People for Christmas:) I don't know anything about the My First Dollhouse, sorry.

Dollhouses are for older kids due to being choke hazards. She cannot have toys that can fit through the paper tube from a roll of toilet paper.

You do not want to her her a wonderful doll house only to walk into her room and find her dead from choking on a tiny chair or a tiny person.

Those ages are on toys for a reason. Even if she is advanced and no longer puts anything in her mouth all it will take for her to start up again is teething.

Get her something else momma.
