Hey A.,
my daughter was in a Toddler carseat at 9 months. The one that I have is from Safety first and i really like it. It was not expensive and I fully trust Safety first. Hope that helps.

My son has outgrown his infant carseat/carrier and we need to buy a new one. I have done some research but they all have so many positives and negatives, that I don't have a clue which one is good. Does anyone have any suggestions about a carseat?

I have bought so many different seats... and my favorite one is the Fisher price Safe Voyage Deluxe. Depending on where you buy it from, it can range from $90 (was just on a super sale!!!) to $170 (full price). I found mine for $130.
First of all, this seat was made by the same manufacturer that makes Britax, but is about half the cost. It is rear facing up to 33lbs, and harnesses up to 55lbs. this is a big deal! Kids are safest in the harness for as long as possible. Also, the harness height is higher than some cheaper priced seats, which will also extend the life of this seat and the safety of your child. The harness straps are 17 inches high... most other seats are 15.
My one friend did point out to me that if you are going to spend that much, you might as well get a britax though, because some of those also are booster seats good up to 100lbs, and the harness goes up to 19 inches and 65 lbs.
The safe voyage seat can not be used as a booster.
anyway, I've had mine for almost a year, and I love it!!!!
here's a link... you have to keep your eye out for specials because this seat sells fast! but it's on sale a lot too.

Britax is great. my son is 3 1/2 and is quite comfortable in it. The head rest is great b/c he never gets a kinked neck when he is sleeping in the car.
Britax. I have the Boulevard, and it's wonderful, because you can use it up to 65 lbs. My 2 year old, and 5 year old both have one. It has the side-impact protection for their head as well. It is the absolute best there is.

Hi
We were pretty happy with the Britax Roundabout. Had one in each car. My 3yr old son recently has outgrown it (length, not weight) and we purchased the Britax Regent. At the time it was a highly rated seat.
Good luck.
I would say that Britax is the best. It is a great seat that is very comfortable and easy to adjust the straps. It comes in and out the car in a snap. It was the highest rated seat by parents in the Baby Bargin book.
We have a Graco for our second seat in my husbands car and it is nice. But it does not feel as heavy and secure. I wish I bought two Britax.
I too have the Eddie Baur car seat. We bought 2 of them at Big Lots and they were at least $80 cheeper than at Babies R' Us and it is the same exact model.. I checked. He's been using it for about 4 months now and it works great. The only problem is that I think its a bit scimpy in the leg area where the harness connects. You have to be really careful not to catch their thigh in the buckle/clasp. Those chubby thighs really do need more room. Its also a bit bulky, but I guess no bigger than any of the other ones. Good luck.
I use a britax in my car, it is the easiest to hook and unhook I have found, it has the latch,it goes rear to front facing, it had padding everywhere including at the buckle and you can tighten the straps with the child in the seat which is great in winter with different size jackers etc since the straps are supposed to be no looser then two fingers underneath. we also have an eddie bauer for my husbands car he called it the easiest most difficult carseat to install. it great as far as it's smaller but not as simple to use as the britax, plus you can always order replacement parts for the britax and you can wash everything, most of my family has used these seats for more then one child.and they go to 40 lbs our son out grew his infant seat at 6 months he is now 2 1/2 and still loves it.
When it was time to move my son from the baby car seat to a bigger one we did quite a bit of research. All carseats are going to have pros and cons but the one we went with was the Britax Decathalon. It is a convertible seat that is rear and front facing. It is easy to install as well. It is on the pricey side but my son is almost 3 yrs old and we have had it since he was 6 months. In fact when it comes time for him to need a booster seat I will probably put my baby in it as it will be about that time for my youngest to switch as well. We had the Eddie Bauer carseat for my oldest and I just am not impressed with it. We went with the convertible to begin with but the straps were always twisting in the seat and it drove me nuts. When we switched him to a boster/5pt harness seat we also went with the Eddie Bauer and I have to say I'm not impressed in the least. I can't wait until we can get rid of it because the padding is always coming off, it won't stay on with the straps in the back and the arm rests my son took the cushions off.
HTH!
I just got the Eddie Bauer carseat from BJ's that changes as the child goes up to 100 lbs. It was so much cheaper than the same exact model they had at Babies R Us, I think by $80.00. I just wish I would have had it from the start since it can be used for infants as well. (Just doesn't come with a stroller.)
I'm in the same boat with my son, growing out of the infant seat and he's only 4 months.
Hi A.,
I use the Graco Comfortsport and both my boys love them. The only thing is that they do not convert to a booster when he gets older. The Eddie Bauer does convert to a booster and I have many friends that have that type and love it. You do have to watch though, some of the carseats don't fit in certain cars. I know a lot of people who couldn't buy a Britax b/c it didn't fit into their car. It was too big. Babies R Us will let you take the model and make sure it fits in your car before you buy it. Just ask a sales person for some assistance.
