I've been checking out bottles to register for and i've heard Dr. Brown bottles are great but are a pain to clean. Since I'm having twins I'm trying to keep things convenient as possible. I've heard the Playtex bottles are great. Does anyone use them and use the airvent ones or drop ins? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I used Avent bottles when not able to feed for both my girls, including my second daugther, a premie who used them when she came home from the hospital and seemed to transition easily. They are easy to clean. I recommend silocon, not rubber nipples, as they don't break down as easily.

I used the Playtex ventaire with my son. I bought the "wide" ones since they were most like the breast. He took to them with no problem. Also, they are a breeze to clean. The whole bottle comes apart!

Congratulations! I have twin 3 year old girls. I cannot comment on your bottle questions since things have changed so much in 2 years but I do want to ditto Michelle's post and recommend joining a Mother of Multiples club. I am member of goMOMS (Greater Oakland Mothers of Multiples). www.gomoms.org The support and friendship is great!

I used Dr. Browns for a few months and loved them...but they contained BPA...so I switched to Born Free...which I love and there were less parts. Dr. Browns now has glass and BPA free bottles....but the Born Free are great with fewer pieces and safe!

I didn't like playtex. The drop ins could get loose and leak...and there are more pieces to put together.

Good luck.

I have a two year old and we bottled feed only due to medicine I am taking. We used the ventaire playtex bottles. The bottles come totally apart. The bottom comes out as does the nipple and the ring. They are very easy to clean. They are four different kinds to choose from. There are slow and fast flow nipples with two different types of bottles. There is wide mouth and regular bottles.

Congratulations! I've used Dr. Brown's and MAM bottles and have been happy with both! I used Dr. Brown's with my first and did not find them a pain at all - we took them apart and threw them in the dishwasher basket and steralized them in the dishwasher! They were great! We currently use MAM bottles with my second son and they are wonderful too! The reason we switched is that my second would not use the Dr. Brown's and we had to try several different brands before we found one he would use! So beware, you may want to use one kind, but the babies may think otherwise!! :) It's great to choose a bottle you want to try first, but I wouldn't buy too many (or at least open too many) until you are sure they will use them! Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you...

I highly recommend the playtex drop ins. When my daughter was born, we first used the Avent bottles, then Dr. Brown's (I did NOT find these to be the "miracle" bottles that some people claim, they made no noticable difference in my daughter's gas issues), and finally the Playtex drop ins. I love these bottles for 2 reasons: The cleaning of bottles is so much easier: just throw away the liner! And because it worked for my daughter's gassy issues. You just squeeze the air out before giving her the bottle, and it helped so much. I plan on using these bottles again for baby #2.

The Dr. Brown's bottles were not a pain to clean, they were wonderful and the only bottles I used and I had triplets.

You should find your local twins/multiples group. The state website is www.momotc.org and the national is www.nomotc.org. Being part of a group is very benificial especially when you are pregnant. It is good to start a bond with these women that can help you so it is easier to accept the help when you need it. :) I have belonged to the Monroe County group since I was 4 months pregnant with my triplets and they just reciently turned 7. Good luck to you. :)

I used the regular avent bottles with my daughter and opted for an "easy to use" brand with my son. We chose the Playtex dropins, and they are wonderful! You only have to clean the tops, and they're very easy to use. We pre-mix formula for the daytime so all we have to do is warm it up a little and then pour into the liner. Easy clean up...and as an added bonus the liners go in our recycle bin!

We don't use them so much anymore now (my son just turned 1), but I would HIGHLY recommend them! Good luck!

The nurses at the hospital I gave birth at with my daughters (Spectrum) have advised against Dr. Brown's, saying the nipples are hard for small babies to latch on to. I have had great luck with the Born Free brand, they are BPA free and easy to use. Good luck!

There are more parts to clean with the Dr Brown bottles but they are worth it. Both of my daughters used them, my 5 week old is using them right now and never spits up and doesn't have a ton of gas. I have also heard great things about the playtex bottles so either way you can't go wrong.

T. ; yeah twins congrats, how wonderful, !! the thing with playtex is you have to constantly buy the refils, they are good bottles though , if money is not an issue, and they are not too expensive, but with twins it surely can add up, nothing wrong with good ole fashioned bottles, and a nice burping session afterward, they are easy to clean , and no replacements , except for maybe nipples in a few months , they make glass bottles again, and they are great cause you can litterally boil them to keep them clean, and they dont release gasses after a while like such plastics do, i have heard dr brown is good, but if its a waashing pain, i would re think it, bottles can be cheap, but if you register and put themon list you can always give it a try, have fun and consider yourself a priviledged mom, keep up your strenght, and stay fit, youll need it, D. s

I have used the playtex drop ins with both of my children and I love them. I will also be using them with my third after I am finished nursing. The clean up is easy as you don't have to worry about making sure to rinse the bottle right away and you don't have to struggle with getting the bottle cleaner in and out.
The only down side is that you do have to pay for the liners. Currently I think it is like $8 for 100 of the 8 oz. liners (Playtex ones) I think you get the wal-mart brand for like $5 or $6. I have used both brands and haven't had any problems with either of them.

Good luck

I loved using the drop ins. I thought they were perfect because I didn't have to worry about lots of pieces to take apart and clean. It was great. I put the bottles in the dishwasher and the nipples went into a special basket that you can buy that goes into the dishwasher. I am a fan!!

I loved the plaxtex drop ins. I don't know if you plan to breastfeed but if you do the plaxtex system allows you to use a breastpump (i.e. Medela) and pump directly in to the drop in. The part you pump into is also the storage system. Then you simply pop one piece out and replace it with the nipple and walla the bottle is ready to go.

I especially loved only have to wash the nipples and connectors after each use (as the bottle doesn't get dirty after every use).

I hope this helps!

Congratulations!

i used the playtex drop ins and loved them. I would say though, if you have some relatives that have recently had babies to borrow bottles at the beginning. Since the babies can be fussy, and may not take to a certain bottle. If you have family that wants to buy you bottles, maybe they can do a gift card now for you, so when you know the bottles that your baby will take, you can purchase them. You can always ask for an assortment as well.

I know my daughter was not fussy, but a cousin went through 4 different types of bottles before they found they liked the playtex ventaire, and my sister used drop ins for one baby, and the other baby liked the gerber. So just becuase it's a bottle you may like, the babies might not like it for whatever reason.

I like the playtex becuase it collapses on them. I found that i didn't have to keep my daughter laying on her back to feed her, I as able to sit her up as she was older, and she could still drink from the bottle. And they were very easy to clean.

My daughter, who nursed preemie twins, says every twin mom should breastfeed - many advantages for the babies and much easier for mom. You're pretty overwhelmed with twins no matter what. If you need advice, contact www.llli.org to find info and a local group. I know lots of twin moms who've nursed and none have ever regretted it. Hope you'll seriously consider it.
