We bought our bed almost 3 years ago and ever since we bought it I have had major stiffness in the am and difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. I have had recent back problems and have realized that we need to get a new bed. When we first bought the bed (sealy posturepedic with pillow-top), I found out I was pregnant and attributed the pain to that, but now my daughter is 2 years old and it keeps getting worse. It is to the point where I toss and turn at night time and it take forever for me to "loosen up in the am". Therefore, I am going to have to get a new bed, but don't have much money for that right now. If any of you could provide suggestions, that would be fantastic. My doctor recommended a bed from Brookstone, however that is out of our price range. Please let me know what you think!

I had some problems with my bed and was able to get memory foam to put on top of my mattress. My problem was that the mattress was too firm. If you have the opposite problem (mattress is too soft) then the foam will probably not work. I know most people say a firm mattress is better for back problems but I was never comfortable on one.

I bought our bed when I was pregnant with my first child. At the time, I thought I needed an extra soft bed, so I got the most plush bed with a pillow top that I could find. I spent a lot of money on it too. Almost six years later, this bed is way too soft for my taste, and it is lumpy because of the pillow top. Also, the side where my 250 pound husband sleeps is like a ditch!

I will be looking to buy a new bed soon too, and this time, I plan on getting one without a pillow top. My suggestion to you is to buy a mattress from Costco. I have great luck with almost everything I buy there. If you don't like the mattress, you can return it for a full refund. Good luck to you. I hope you can get a comfortable night's sleep soon.

Why on earth did you post MY story!?! My DD is 4 and we got our sealy PP /pilowtop when she was around 6 months. I have not slept good since. The bed we had was a motionless waterbed...even my husband misses it. You sleep on that motionless...you get up in the morning feeling like you are coming out of some sort of hibernation. Its my right arm that feels awfull all the time and I am cranky and sore with that stupid sealy.
I am doing a countdown....we move...the FIRST order of business is to get a new motionless waterbed.
and just so you know...when you sleep on the motionless waterbed, the covers, pillows and such are always in the same position that they were when you went to sleep...apparently, you have no need to toss and turn.

No pillowtop. You do not have to spend a ton on money on a new mattress but do not get the really sheap ones either. My husband had 2 back surgeries and the we thought a pillowtop would be the best thing. I t turned out to be the worst. When he told the doc that we had a pillowtop and his back was hurting so much, the doc said that if you have back problems, do NOT get a pillowtop. You want a firm but not hard mattress. Lay on it and roll around, lay down for at least 10 minutes on it to make sure you would be comfy. Also, you should have your husband lay with you since you do not sleep alone you want to make it just like if you were sleeping.

I love our sleep number bed. I have back issues and need a firm bed and my DH prefers to sleep on a soft mattress. We do have a pillowtop.

My cousin just told me tonight that they bought a gel memory foam topper at Costco and she's been getting a good night's sleep ever since. It cost around $125 for a king size one which they put on top of their broken down mattress. She has fibromyalgia and said this topper has helped more than anything else she's tried.

It's different than a memory foam topper. It has gel in it's name

I have slept on memory foam and it is firm while still having give to it.

Do you have home furnishing stores that have a bargain type area? We have one here that does and I got my mattress there for like $100 and it is awesome to me :)
