Shaved Ice! :) It is loved by all ages!

Other than that, 1st birthdays are best kept simple. Kids are so worn out by the attention, presents and cake that they really get tired fast and do not enjoy a whole lot more than that.

GL!

We did sliders (mini hamburgers that Burger King now makes for you!), chips, juice, mini cupcakes so you don't have to cut them, chips and dip and sangria for the parents, bubbles, and filled a mini kids pool with balls. The kids and parents enjoyed everything. They are too young for your typical games, but they LOVED the ball pit. You can just bust out all of your toys and they kids will love that, too, because they are new toys to them! It was really simple, and made it really relaxing for us!

Hi Y. - my daughter is turning 1 on may 27th! How neat! My best friend gave me the best idea just last night that she did with her son. Take the matting on a picture frame (you can have them made at Hobby Lobby and it doesn't cost much so that it is a little wider) and then have all of the children who come to the party use washable paint and put a handprint on the matting. Beside the print put their name and their bday. On the top of the frame put your son's hand prints together. She said she wished she had also put his foot prints as well. After the party just add your pictures and hang on the wall. She has one for 6 pictures but I'm going to do just 2. One of my daughter and then one of everyone at the party. Hope this helps!

I agree with a lot of the other ladies. Don't worry to much about games they will be too tired and too over stimulated to participate anyway. We did the cutest monkey theme for our son's 1st b-day. I made monkey cupcakes (you can find a lot of different recipes on the web). I had banana split icecream. I sent the kids away with monkey coloring books and a banana. I also found a really cute monkey t-shirt on-line for him to wear that day. When it was time to play we had a "monkeying around" room. They had a blast just playing with eachother. You will have lots of years where he will tell you what he wants..enjoying the relaxing ones while you still can!

Have Fun!!

My daughter did tortilla rollups (flour tortillas, ranch & turkey or lunch meat of your choice) chips and cake. So easy & good. Little ones as well as the big ones loved it. Rollups can be made ahead. Easy cleanup for the park or home.
You can make it as easy or difficult as you choose. Make it easy & enjoy the day!

I did a ball theme for my 1st son's 1st party. He really loved balls.

-buy a bunch of large balls from Target and throw them into the back yard
-Polka dot cake-I actually had little fondant balls around the base of the cake where a scallop border would be. I did circles of fondant with bounce marks around the side of the cake.

Just focus on whatever your son loves and go over the top. It will probably be simple, but they're only one and in love with balls, rolls of toilet paper, big boxes etc. while they're small.

May is a wonderful month to plan a party in the park. Of course, you will need a back up plan for indoors, just in case, but usually weather isn't bad that time of year. My granddaughter (whose bd is May 4)had her first birthday party in a park. The dads grilled hot dogs, and these were served with juice boxes from coolers. There was a pinata filled with candy (nothing that will melt!) for the older kids, and they loved it! There was plenty of activity on the playground equipment, so really no need of games for this young crowd. They also had a small individual cake for the birthday girl to dig her hands into, then served guests from the larger, separate cake. Fun was had by all! Happy birthday to your son!

My advice is buy a cake, buy some punch and make it a simple cake and punch party and don't go to any trouble. I just had my daughter's 1st birthday and I made myself crazy trying to do too much. Keep it simple and son't put too much work and time into it. Instead spend the time and money with your baby. You won't believe how fast the first birthday comes and goes.

We invited the grandparents, uncles, anuts, cousins and 2 close friends to meet us at a local park (with restrooms) and we cooked hamburgers and hot dogs. It was very low stress because it was not at my house. It was at a park that she loved and so did the other cousins and 2 friends. A grill was available. All we took was charcoal and matches to start the grill and a cooler full of food. The side dishes were potato salad, chips and drinks and of course the cake. We also had a pinata that everyone had a turn at before my brother and husband had to break it. What ever you do, make it simple because it only comes once and it is more for you than them.
