Suggestions About Pack and Play

My 5 month old son sleeps in a pack and play next to our bed. We have 3 children and a 2 bedroom condo that we are trying to sell. We have no room to set up his crib. How do we make it more comfprtable for him. He is pretty big for his age, and I noticed that you can feel the legs thru the pad that he sleeps on. I put blankets under the pad, but I don't think that helps too much. It is not ideal, but has anyone put dense foam under the pad to make it less bumpy. Or, does anyone have any other suggestions of what to sleep him in. BTW-co sleeping won't work for our fam. Thanks!

Hi J.,
In my opinion he is too old too sleep in a pack & play on a regular basis. Just think of the name it should be used that way. When you travel or just want to keep him safe in a place you can find him (if he's crawling already). My suggestion is to get a sturdy bassinet, then he still can be near you in your room at arms length. He'll grow pretty quick now so the bassinet would be your temporary solution.
Hope you guys find the house of your dreams soon. Good luck.
Bernie

When my son was about 4 months old, his crib broke. It was a hand-me-down and the clip on the side got stuck and broke when I used too much force. Oops. Anyway, he slept in the pack n play for about 4 months until we got another crib. I bought 2 inch foam from Minnesota Fabrics (now Hanover Fabrics) and put that under the pad that came with the thing. It worked pretty well. Of course, by the time we got him into a crib again, we were just glad we didn'thave to bend over to pick him up. Little package can get really heavy. :)
BTW, a bassinet is probably not a good option since there are weight limits. If you are looking for a different option, maybe a portable crib. If you go this route, look for one that really locks in place so it is not flimsy.

If it a full size pack and play, there's a mattress for it. Not so thick, but better than just a very thin pad it come with.

My son hated the crib and slept in the pakc and play till he was 18 months. We just put a thin foam pad and a fluffy blanket for him. He was kind of big too but he loved it.
