Suggestion for New Diapers

I swore by DriBottoms - cheapest ones you can get at Wal-Mart. A friend suggested them to me as she swore by them with her 2 sons and when I tried them I never went back. We always had leaks with Luvs and Pampers and never did with these! Good luck! :-)

The only diaper that worked on my son was huggies. My first son did this from birth to about 18 months, and it was multiple times a day. He was my pooper. I didn't like the huggie supremes but the huggies worked well. Minimized blow outs. Hope this helps

Switch to cloth. Two kids and never had a blowout unless we used disposables while out for a day or on vacation. :)

Cloth, cloth, cloth, the only way to go!! You won't be sorry. I am sure there is a cloth diaper store or online store for you to go check them out. Try one or a few!

i had the same problem so I went up a size desdpite I shouldn't have had to. They're right cloth does help too. I've recently tried it and it's great. She has great customer service, low or free shipping, sample packages that are customizeable, andshe will consider carrying any item if you let her know you're interested. She also price matches.

I think every parent has had the poop blow out. With my oldest we didn't have problems with diapers and found the WalMart brand did a great job of containing it all.

My second daughter however is a different story. She holds her pee forever and when she goes it quite often fills a diaper. During the day that's ok but nights are aweful. We switched to Huggies Overnights and they are GOLD!!! She doesn't leak at all any more. I sometimes use them when we are going on a long car trip when I know it won't be easy to stop for frequent changes.

Another in a pitch suggestion that worked for us is that we also when we can't find the overnights put a size larger on her, the extra padding and absorption seem to help!

I had this exact problem with my boys. The only diaper I found that contained the rocket poop was Huggies. I was able to switch to store brand diapers later when this phase was over, but only huggies until then.

We had LOTS of poop blowouts with our son, and I agree with Erika that it's probably a phase most of us go through. I tried so many brands of diapers - basically everything except for cloth! I always came back to Cruisers. Have you tried the Target Cruisers that are supposedly more absorbent? They are only sold at Target. That being said, I don't know if they would affect blowouts. You could also try the nighttime diapers during the day and see how that works?

all i know is dreft stain removal is the best. as they get older it shouldnt happen anymore. my daughter had some accidents like yours but then it kept getting less and less. i only use pampers cruisers. make sure the diapers not to loose on. kirkland brand from cosco is good. if you want cheap ones but nice. thats what i got a my baby shower and i used them all up. and ive tried huggies but are too cheap feeling and i dont like pampers dry they tear to easy. ive never tried luvs. Also the size of the diaper might be too small. my dauughters diapers is to the middle of her spin.

i dont know... diapers are different on every baby. try huggies, try store brands. you could always attempt the cloth route also, but its more work of course. i felt like my son had blowouts all the time, and even now that hes 3 and mostly potty trained if he forgets to tell us or something and goes in a diaper it still sometimes ends up out one end or the other. so i dont think that there is a "cure" for blowouts necessarily. just catching it in time and making sure that you change it as soon as possible, dont let him sit in it and squish it up and out. also, if you are making a diaper too snug there wont be room for the poo to be in the diaper so it will squish right out. its complicated! ;)

I had the same problem. Huggies Supreme seemed to solve it for us.

My son is the same age and we had the same problem until we tried target up and up brand. works great!

Both of my kids were really good poopers, and we went through a lot of clothes because of blowouts. Even the diapers with stretchy backs (most have them now) don't contain it if there's just too much too quickly to absorb.

My only real recommendation: get bigger diapers and try to outsmart the poop.

S., I had the same problem with my son...EWW! We tried every type and size of diaper out there. Finally, we found that the Pampers Baby Dry worked best. The cruisers not only didn't work, but gave him a terrible rash around the legs. My advice: Pampers Baby Dry and time, together, this stage will soon come to an end.

Hi - If you're breastfeeding, you probably won't be able to stop the explosive poops. However, we used the Target Up & Up diapers with our 2nd child and they really seem to help contain the messiness much better than Pampers or Huggies ever did with our first. Give them a try. They're a lot less expensive, however you don't get quite as many in a pack. Good luck!

The best diaper depends on the child..

My daugher was skinny.. so the only diaper that fit her was pampers.. the huggies did not get snug around the leg so we had leaks there.. Huggues do have nice thick elastic in the back.. it should stop the blowouts..

when the child starts eating more solid food the poo gets easier to manage and more likely to stay in the diaper..

By the way .. I think pampers baby dry are way more absorbant than the cruisers.. cruisers feel wet when they are wet. baby drydo not..

I have been using Target brand UP & UP diapers for a while and absolutely love them. Its worth a shot, and they're not as expensive as the name brand ones. Good luck

I think it's a stage that they all go through! My daughter had this at one point, too, and we had a hard time finding anything that worked. I second the mom who said to try to "outsmart" the poop! :) We have been using the Target diapers, too, for a long time now and have not only loved the results, but we've loved saving money too! Huggies has the strechy back! The are all I have ever used.

I found huggies to have the best elastic back -- the gentlecare ones in the red pack (at least it's a red pack around here! lol) that are a bit more expensive.
However, the best solution for explosive poos is cloth diapers. Seriously amazing.

Luvs are the WORST, and Pampers are almost as bad! That always happened with both of those on both my girls. Huggies are MUCH better - but the Costco brand (Kirkland) diapers have been amazing! I'm so impressed at how well they contain those diaper explosions!

I am a fan of Pampers because they smell good, but Huggies have been the best in my opinion. They seem to have the best coverage. My kids both have the blowout diapers on occasion. I noticed it happens most when my son or daughter are sitting upright in the high chair, bumbo chair or exersaucer type chairs, so I check them frequently during those times.
Huggies overnights are GREAT too. My kids would have a hard time staying dry in the night, but these diapers help tremendously. Good luck!

When my daughter was that age I changed over to Huggies natural fit. They have a large elastic waist band that seemed more secure. After she reached the age of 1 year I moved to the Pampers Baby Dry which I liked so much better than the cruisers so you may want to try those instead.Good Luck.

My first was blowout King and my second has not ever had a blowout unless he's sick or constipated. I think some kids are just more prone. That said, Cruisers are meant for walking kids, so I wonder if that's not helping? I used Pampers Swaddlers (although I think they go up to size 3...if you have a big baby, he may be out of them already) with the most luck for my blowout baby, but after trying a number of brands, I finally just had to find something to clean his clothes with. :)

Have you tried cloth diapers? Since using cloth diapers, I do less clothing laundry because I have only had 1 or 2 blowouts in over a year. :) The dirty diaper laundry isn't as bad as you think it might be.

Personally I found the stretchy back diapers actually were more likely to have blowouts because they stretched so much the poo could escape. My favorite disposable diaper was Seventh Generation. I would fold the back of the diaper in toward the skin and then snug the waist much tighter than you would expect. If this is still a problem then get some cloth diaper covers (good quality one are available from Peapods or online) and put that over the disposable diaper.

I had the same problem at first, and I switched to Huggies. They are fantastic! I would give them a try. I have only had two up-the-back instances since (in a full year) and that was just plain a case of explosive messing-of-the-diaper, followed by the diaper getting squished when we picked him up (so partially our fault). So, anyway, I would try Huggies. They have worked great.

If you are having trouble with staining, try Dreft: Stain Remover. It comes in a spray bottle (like the ones household cleaners come in) and it is a miracle worker; I have used it on everything, from poop stains in my son's clothes, to grease stains, pen stains, juice stains, grass stains, tomato sauce– you name it, it takes it out (as long as you don't wait too long; but even a day or two later it will take most, if not all, of the stain out).

I hope this helps, and will pray that the explosive diapers disappear!

We buy our son Members Mark diapers from Sams and I like them pretty well. They have the stretchy backs and are pretty soft too. I prefer Pampers bc of the softness, but Members Mark are cheaper and still pretty soft. They fit his little butt well too. We havent had a blow out yet! Good Luck!

hmmm.. Maybe he is having way too much stools... and the consistency of it must be runnier than usual. Check his diet..
I advocate for cloth diapers...
However, you can use those protectors for cloth diapers over any other kind.

Cloth pocket diapers are good at containing blowouts, but if you're not into doing that (I have found I like cloth much better than disposable, though you would have to change him at night), purchase some diaper covers that have the gathers at the waist and around the legs. Mine aren't the pull on kind, they vvelcro like a regular diaper. I use these over disposable when I use them, to contain the annoying blowouts.

Huggies Little Snugglers (and I think Little Movers) Have an extra and across the back that helps prevent this. Also, the more solids your baby eats the more solid the poo will be, so take heart, it won't be so messy soon.

We used the Target brand diapers for our daughter and just loved them! They never leaked or had any other problems! And the price was great!

We have the best luck with Pampers Baby Dry. Not cruisers or swaddlers (although the swaddlers seem second best). After I put it on, I always give the back a good tug upwards (as though giving him a wedgie lol). I have read that some babies just don't poop as often and then overfill their diapers cuz of it. Hope thats not your case. Good luck!

I swear by Huggies. We've tried Target, Walmart, Pampers, Food Lion, and Luvs brands and we keep going back to Huggies. They are pricier but they are the only ones that we've been happy with. If you go to Huggies.com you can sign up to get coupons. I get them quite often so it helps! Good luck!

If it helps, most babies go through this phase. It happened all the time at the day care, and it didn't matter boy or girl or brand or method of feeding.

You can try making the diapers tighter. I would get my daughter from my mom or day care and her diapers would be much tighter than I'd make them, but she seemed perfectly fine.

You can also get Dreft or Oxyclean for Babies stain remover (they've worked best for us) and spray it on when you take it off. I like to let it soak before washing, then I check them before I put them in the dryer. I've saved a lot of things that way. Good luck.

RE: diaper brands, I found that my daughter does better in Pampers Baby Dry than Cruisers, especially overnight. You can also get doublers (our babies R Us sells them, they like like old fashioned maxi pads) for extra help.

If you belong to Costco the Kirkland diapers are really nice. Very, very similar to Huggies Supreme...but way less expensive.

Huggies dipes were the only ones that could contain everything for us. There isn't enough money in the world to pay me to use Pampers. Just not a good dipe.

One trick that has worked for us is to fold the waist in and down on his back, above his butt. Kinda like you do for newborns and their belly button. It helps to contain all that mess!

I had a lot of trouble with this with my older two kids. My oldest would only do well with Luvs. My second only did well with Huggies. With my third child came the discovery of Costco's store brand, Kirkland diapers. I AM IN LOVE!

The only times I have ever had to deal with a blowout diaper with Kirkland is when they need to move to the next size up. My fourth is now 2, and I've only had a couple blowouts ever with him. My blowout days are a not-so-fond distant memory now that I use Kirkland. I can't recommend them enough.

I swear by Target's Up and Up brand! I was VERY skeptical at first to try them because of how cheap they are, but once I did I haven't used a different brand (except for when someone else buys them) For Christmas we got a box of the Kirkland brand diapers from Costco and they are terrible! My son soaks through them in an hour, definitely CAN NOT be used at night! The Target ones last all through the night (12 hours) without any wetness when he gets up. Plus they are such a good deal, give them a try! If they don't work, hey they were only $6 for a pack.

I am in complete agreement with Tammy B. We started with disposable, and switched to cloth. I still wish I would have had my act together enough to do cloth from the beginning. Cloth diapers are not only economical because you can use them with more than one child, but also good for the environment. Besides that, they have great fit. I have a son just like yours. Blow outs and you could almost set your clock to when he will be pooping. I like cruisers also. One day he was accendently put into his brothers diaper (he is a size 3 and brother size 6) and it held the blowout. So now we try and put him in the larger size just for that. I also find that the stain lifter by oxy clean works the best for getting out the stains.

Like some one else said some kids are just blowout kings or queens.

I'm not sure if you are open to cloth diapers, but I find the fit to be much better than disposables because they have great elastic in the back. It will also save you a ton of money! We use Bum Genius One-Size Pocket Diapers. They expand as your baby grows, so you only have to buy them once. I'm about to have my 2nd baby in May, and it's SO nice to know that this one will be "free", as far as diapers go! :)

We had a lot of blow out issues w/my first dtr. We mainly had to go up a size and almost criss cross the velcro in the front. It always mattered how "tight" the waist was. With my son - he had more leakage - so, the "size up" is what worked best. I think we just stuck with the tight waist technique and he had less blow outs occur. The only diapers I swear by are the Huggies newborns and then Pampers Cruisers Size 2 and up. Good Luck!

Not sure if this will help, but when we went to our 6 mo check up, my ped noticed we were diapering our daughter way too loosely! It didn't seem that way to me - in fact I though it was fine. But she showed me how snug I need to make the tabs and I was a little shocked. It looked too tight to me at the time (the tabs overlapped! I'm sure it would depend on what size diaper and end of the weight scale your little one was at as to where the tabs actually fall). But we've never had a blowout with our little one and she's 2.5 y/o now! (We use Pampers Cruisers and Baby Dry's). I'm wondering if its not coming out the legs, if this could be the issue?
