Sudden Refusal to Eat Baby Food

After 6 weeks of eating baby foods (and liking them), my 7-month-old son is suddenly refusing to eat any of them. He just sits there with his mouth clamped shut. Even putting his favorites to his lips does nothing.
This has been going on 3-4 days, and coincides with a doctor visit in which he was found to have ear infections in both ears, and started on amoxicillin. He continues to breastfeed just fine. I continue to offer baby foods at the regular times, but obviously don't force it.
Anyone have any experience with this, or ideas on what to do? Thank you!!

My daughter despises baby food. She always has. I just gave up and started feeding her table food. Yesterday's breakfast: pancakes and eggs. It may just be that he's not feeling well. But try some table food and see if he'll eat that. Maybe he just doesn't like the bland taste of baby food, especially since the EI may be affecting how he tastes things.

If your baby has ear infections they will not eat because
they are not feeling right.Once the medicine takes affect and the infections go away they will get their eating habits back.

I have a friend who has a little girl who did this. She started feeding her real food, and she is a great eater now! However, you may want to ask your pediatrician about this.

Yes, my baby at 6 months got an ear infection. He loved his baby food up until then. When the ear infection cleared, he slowly went back to the eating. In fact, the ear infection had no other symptoms than not eating. I am sure he will eat again.

One of the many great things about breastfeeding is that your son is absolutely getting everything he needs nutritionally from you. He won't need any additional calories until he's over a year old. We didn't really start solids until my daughter was 9 months old, and she didn't regularly eat any solid food until she was well over a year. I would give solids a break for a week or two and continue to nurse, nurse, nurse. Then, try solids again and his outlook on them may be better.

It may be that the amoxicillin makes things taste bad. I would continue to offer and eventually he will then eat. Since he is still breast feeding fine unless he were to start dropping weight I would not worry.
My 2 never eat baby food. Just never liked it at all. The doctor never said a word about it because they both grew just fine.
Another thought just occurred to me. It may hurt to chew even thou he does have teeth to really chew. It may hurt just to swallow. I can recall from having ear infections myself it did sometimes hurt to eat (chew and swallow).
Hope this helps.

You are doing the right thing. I would keep offering solids and see what happens. Does he like any finger foods yet? They might spark an interest, but don't stress. As long as he is making wet diapers, he will be fine. When the meds are done, if he is still not eating, you culd contact the doctor because he may still have some infection. I would just keep offering though, he will probably surprise you and want them.

With ear infections babies often refuse to eat, but an amoxicillin can also cause and upset stomach. Also when child is sick they are known to regress in an area. My 4 year old gets sick and he has accidents, it's where he regresses. They act younger when they are really sick. Breastfeeding has been comforting to him since he was born. I would tend to say your son's reaction is probably very normal and wouldn't for the food. If he is still refusing to eat 5 days after starting the anitbiotic, then I would begin to worry more.
