I'm a stay at homer and therefor, I often have the t.v. on, sometimes watching it, other times as background noise. In the past few weeks, I've had ABC on and though the information on the program indicates that it is "New" (not a repeat), I have seen segments of that show before. I know it's not just "familiar" because I know exactly what they are going to say or show seconds before it happens!!! The shows are "The Chew" and Good Afternoon America". Am I the only one who thinks they are splicing in segments into repeat espisodes or am crazy?! lol

Anyway, I just didn't know who else to ask, as most of my friends work away from home.

Thanks, ladies, and have an incredible day! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know it's not predictability, because I know EXACTLY what's coming up and they are not repeats of complete shows, either, because some topics on the shows are current. So, I guess it's that they are splicing in some repeats into shows to stretch out the length of a shorter new show....

Thanks for the responses! :)

You are not crazy, I've seen this myself. I was thinking it might be "new" to that channel or time frame tho.

I don't think they are splicing so much as boringly predictable.

They are just starting the new season this month...I'm sure they had to do some splicing to make up for vacations....

I've not been watching lately...but I am sure you are not hallucinating.

Yep, especially in August when everybody's on vacation. It's repeat and combinig of shows time. September brings on the new seasons, so we should be good for another couple of months.

This happened to me, too.

I thought I was going crazy. I knew I'd had already heard this before.

I finally figured it out they were in fact repeats.

I think they use this as filler during co-host's vacations & before the new season starts again.

You sound like me - I always have something on; radio, tv, etc. I can't stand silence; plus I have the ringing in the ears!!

They do this on the news magazine shows all the time! They'll put in a few minutes of actual NEW stuff, then the next story is an old one. Sometimes I'll catch them saying we'll "re-visit" the story but half the time I don't even hear them say that but I know it's an old story.

I don't watch "The Chew" - sorry, can't stand some of the people on there; but they probably insert some old stuff to fill up an hour. "Regis and Kelly" did this all the time: they'd tape a new opening segment (host chat) then the next 50 minutes is all old stuff.

I guess the powers-that-be think we're too stupid to notice!!! All they care about is getting a show on the tv and if people think it's new then they'll watch, it gets registered and their Nielsen ratings go up for the summer!!!

Half the time I don't remember what I've watched so it's ALL new to me!! lol!!!

Not a stupid question!!

Absolutely they are looping stuff . . . I was sick recently and had the news on in the background all day (I don't watch it much anymore). I kept hearing repeat stuff.

I've gotten into online radio - much better.

Honestly, I stay home, too, and I can't for the life of me find anything worth watching, even just for company, during the day. It's all mind-numbing babble. Music or books on tape are much more motivating to me than those stupid talk shows and judge shows.

You are indeed right. These kinds of shows might have, say, four segments in an hour-long show, and yep, they do at times have three new ones and the fourth is from some earlier broadcast. You're not hallucinating.

Thank goodness our local PBS started an all-British-TV channel so I can at least have some good old comedies or dramas on in the background instead of faux-news shows or celebrity talkfests. If you like, get DVDs for background -- at least you get more choice and can catch up on old TV shows you liked without having to give them full attention (or be subjected to ads!).
