My 10 week old has a stuffy nose that won't go away. She has had it for about 3 weeks. I have a warm vaporizer that runs 24 hours a day in her room and have used Little Noses and an aspirator when it interferes with nursing. Any other suggestions? How long is this going to last?
we have a little Aromatherapy called a super mint pack - it works great for us - with congestion - that is what normally causes coughs. I just came online to find where I can buy another one. find it under MINT PACK at www.rachelsbest.com
3 weeks is a long time for a 10 week old. If you havn't checked with your pediatrician yet I would give them a call just to be safe. But if she hasn't had a fever or any other symptoms then it's probably just one of these winter colds that just needs to run it's course. It sounds like you're doing all the right things considering she's too young for any medications. I havn't tried the vicks stuff.
My son will be 11 months old and I still deal with the stuffy or runny nose all the time. My pedi. told me to use a cool mist humidifier and baby vics. I have been using that method since he was about 8 weeks old and it works for him.

They actually say to use a cool mist vaporizer now a days, you can get them a Target pretty cheap.
Her stuffy nose may just be a new baby thing that will take a little while to clear up. My daughter had the same thing that seemed to take forever to go away.

Many times breastfed babies have an aversion to dairy that mom ingests. You could try eliminating dairy for about a month and see if it clears up. The worst offender is cow's milk. Other, more processed items(cheese, yogurt,etc)don't seem to have such a severe reaction. Dairy allergies or simple aversions can show up as cold symptoms-coughing, stuffy, runny nose, repeated ear infections, and also skin rashes. Not all babies have this reaction and some have it to different degrees. Even bottle fed babies can have it since formula is dairy based. I hope this can shed a little light for you. If you continue to have problems be sure to talk to your pediatrician.
saline nose spray "booger ball" and a steamy bathroom! you can also get something to go in a humidifier and its like vicks but it makes the steam smell good and opens them up...
I've heard and used vick vapor rub on the feet. The idea is if you rub garlic or any other stronger spice on your feet your boby basically obsorbs it. About 30 to 45 minutes later you should literally taste the garlic in your mouth. Vicks works the same way opening the sinus and lungus because of the menthol. It offers them some relief without medication. Not that I'm against meds. I came across this idea with the recent scare this fall of the multi-symstom meds for infants under 2 years old. People were over doseing their young kids giving them infant tylenol and a multi-systom med that also had and fever reducer. Every infant med got pulled off the shelf in an over reaction. My college friend who grew up on a farm recommended. I used it on my 12 month old it helped her. I also use a warm vapor with methol in it to again just open the passages.
try Vicks vaporub on the soles of the feet, works like a charm!
My son was the same way until i found the vicks plug in. Its a night light too. You plug it into the outlet and insert the inserts and it worked wonders. The vaporizer and the humdifier never worked. It helped for me too. He sleeps with me when he is sick. (he also has seizures, call me paranoid) and i just close the door and the whole room fills up andits nice to breath. Not over powering at all. It also like 6 bucks. comes with night light and like 5 inserts.
something you may want to think about is making sure you are disinfecting the vaporizer regularly. if mold is growing in the unit, it may add to the problem.
It sounds as though you're on the right track! I definitely would not give her any meds., just the saline nose spray along with the aspirator to suction out the mucus. It also may just be the new baby stuffy nose. My son had a stuffy nose for the longest time after he was born, but had no other "cold" symptoms. The doctor told me it was quite common...This is the time of year to have a vaporizor going since the air is super dry, so keep up what you are doing.
instead of using the warm vaporizer, use a cool mist one; Walmart usually sells them for about $20. Drs don't recommend it but I used it on both of my kids but put a tiny bit of the Vic's baby vapor rub. It help them out alot. Good luck!!!!!!
