Struggling with DD Autism Diagnosis

Can anyone recommend a good psychiatrist and/or counselor in the Plano/Frisco area? Or a good parent support group? I feel like my whole world has fallen apart and I just can't seem to handle anything anymore. Sometimes it feels like if one more stressful thing happens I am going to completely lose it. I just don't have the time right now to search around for one.

I have a great church, but I really need to talk to some non-judgmental people that have either been through this or can help. I can't go on trying to handle this all by myself. Hard to ask, but can anyone recommend someone or a group in the area? Please PM me or post, even if it is just an online group (that is private).

What can I do next?

I know you mentioned you have a church--but just in case you are looking for more support...
Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco has a great special needs department on Sundays. They even have a front door that leads right to the special needs children's section so that you don't have to weave through the crowd. Also--they have one Saturday a month for parents to drop off special needs kiddos and have a night to themselves. They do lots of fun things with the kids in a very safe environment. (I forget which Sat. of the month it is...) You can check out their website. Several families have chosen to go to this church just because of the special needs support.

Hi,
Believe me I know what you are feeling. My son was diagnosed 8 years ago and it can feel like your world is upside down. We have a Yahoo group called DFW MAFEA (Mothers Actively Fighting To Eradicate Autism). You will find huge support and guidance there with SO many amazing moms. You are so awesome to want to reach out! That is the first step to getting support. Autismspot.com is a good place to find therapys etc. ALso asking online to the yahooo groups is a great place to find what you are looking for. The Autism Society of Collin County has great resources too. The only good thing to come out of my childs diagnosis is the fantastic friends I have made. SO PLEASE know that I wish you didn't have to join this "sorority" but we will help you so much along the way and you never have to go through this alone. My name is L. Chollick and my email address is ____@____.com. Email me and tell me how old your child is and what direction you want to take. You asked for a counselor, was that for you or your child? Take a deep breath and we will help you every step of the way. There are so many resources out there that will make your search easier and all the moms will help you in so many ways. It WILL get better.
I am sending a great big hug to you right now!!!
Email when you can.
L.

I have a friend who has gone through the same issue, her daughter with ADD/ADHD and her son with Autism. Both kids are doing much better and she has a better quality of life. You can reach me at ###-###-####, I will give you more details and introduce you to my friend who could be a great support and resource.
