Strong Abdominal Pains After Giving Birth

I just started my first menstrual cycle after having my son and am experiencing strong cramping like pains. I've tried medicine and heating pads it doesn't seem to be working. I've never had cramps before during menstrual cycles. Is this a common thing or should i be concerned?

What can I do next?

Hey K.,
It does seem that cramps and flow change a lot after the first kid. hopefully your body will balance out, but I would mention it at the next appointment or make an appointment if you have several bad ones. I had them put me on YAZ to control the flow and it has been a GOD SEND!

You should call your doctor just to be sure, but I don't think you have anything to worry about. My cramps have gotten worse after each child. I have 3 kids and I hardly ever had cramps before my first. I'm not trying to scare you...they aren't horrible. They are only really bad for the first few cycles. And after a few cycles they seem to get less. But again check with the doctor's office just to make sure you don't have an infection or anything since you are still so post partum.
Take care-

Are you sure it's your menstrual cycle? 7 weeks is so early - unless you're not breastfeeding. I would definitely contact your OB (did you just have your 6 week post partum visit?) and check in to make sure everything is ok. Your uterus is still contracting back to original size as someone else said, so that might be making things more uncomfortable. And congratulations on your baby boy!

K., I used to have bad cramps then did some Mayan abdominal massage (specifically for women/uterus). You do the little massage everyday for about 5 mins. before sleeping and goodbye cramping forever. You can find a practicioner at arvigomassage.com

it's probably because your uterus is still contractingback to size after having the baby. have you had your postpartum check up? i would call your DR just to check in. cheers!

I think this happened to me too after having my 2nd child. My periods were very heavy also (and I breastfed!). It went away after a few months and my body returned to its normal cycle.

Hi there...first off CONGRATS! And Im a mom of five, yes five kids(4-19) With every birth, and with age Im 35, my period gets worse and worse! The cramps hurt SO bad. Try Aleve,or Motrin...if you havent already....maybe a birth control pill. I hope you find some relief..:)
