Yesterday I went in and the doc said that she wants try strip my membranes next week to help move things along. The plan is that i have an ultrasound scheduled and if all looks well, they well stip my membranes to help my body get an extra push. I do have an induction scheduled for Halloween. Has anyone had their membranes stripped? I heard it can hurt and be uncomfortable. I also heard it can induce labor. I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had experienced this and what happened.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all who gave me some helpful hints and advice. I went and saw the doctor today. The doctor took a look and said that I am not dialted enough to actually strip the membranes and the baby is too high up. I go back Wed. to be checked again and I am still being induced on Halloween which is already a week before my due date.

I have had it done with two of my pregnancies, and I hated it! It was really uncomfortable, but I had been on bedrest with both and was almost completely effaced, so the doctors were also trying to get things going. It's not a big deal...they do it all the time. But please, be prepared: Take a pad with you! You will probably start spotting, and at least one of the times my doctor didn't have anything to give me. Good luck and best wishes!

with my DD I had my membranes stripped twice - basically all the dr does (in very lay terms!) is stick their finger in a swirl it around a bit - it was uncomfortable, but when your 8 months pg pretty much everything is! and trust me it paled in comparison to actual labor :)

the first time it did not encourage labor, but the 2nd time it totally did - the dr stripped inthe morning and my DD was born that evening! It's just an small natural push if your body and the baby are ready then it will encourage labor and if you and the baby are not ready then it won't - I say it's worth a try

Hi S. my name is Neka I live about 15min or so from the base I have a 13-1/2, 7 &2yr old. I believe my membranes were stripped when I was pregnant w/ my son. From what I recall there wasn't a substantial amount of pain. Like they say it was to move things along. Now everyone is different , but for most part it was the usual contractions and such. But if you can wait and make the doc.t's be patient ,because really it's the doc.t's who want to move things along. You have close to 2weeks left anyway who knows what happen. Things may progress on their own,but if it gets close allow them to stripped then. Hope I helped

Hello and welcome fellow military family!

I have had my membranes stripped with both of my children. It is uncomfortable, you may cramp and spot for the next day or 2...completely normal. That is what happened to me. It did help speed the delivery process up with both of my babies. Within 2 days, my water broke with both children.

Good luck and congrats!
Let me know if there's any other questioon that I can help you with!!!

I was in the Navy and stationed at Andrews! I digress...

I've not had my membranes stripped but it is something that they say can (and usually does) induce labor without having to be induced (with chemicals). A friend of mine just had it done on Monday and her baby boy was born Monday night. She said it is not exactly comfortable but it saved her from all the other "stuff" they use to induce.

Hi...I had my daughter 26 July...My doctor actually stripped my membranes 3 different times...each times was a little more intense. Stripping my membranes didn't induce my labor at all....so I had to get the medicine....It effects everyone differently. The only reason I had him strip me was b/c I was so uncomfortable.. Good Luck...Let us know what happens..

FYI...My doctor had stripped 6 people when I was getting it done...and 4 out of the 6 went into labor that night...I wasn't one of the lucky ones :)
