Strep Throat Hit My Entire Family

Hi mamas,
Strep throat has attacked my entire family. We are all currently on antibiotics, and hopefully will be better very soon. Any tips on how we can prevent re-infecting ourselves? My hubby got it first and he will be finished with his antibiotic tomorrow with the rest following behind this week. I am so weak, that I need a plan of attack of what to do first to rid the house of germs. I know I'll only be able to get a few things accomplished a day. I haven't had this since high school, so I forgot how horrible it is! Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I don't think you can reinfect yourselves. You're all getting antibiotics.
Since dad is getting better first, have him clean the bathrooms, etc and wipe all surfaces with disinfectants.
Also do the saltwater gargles, Tylenol for fever, tea with honey--all will bring some comfort!

Antibiotics do weaken the immune system so you need to combat that now so you don't have a second round. Probiotics will help that. Go to a health store that carries pharmaceutical grade supplements and talk to someone there about which one they carry that is best. Also, colloidal silver will get rid of strep as well and will not create any side effects. It's a natural antibiotic. Making sure that beds sheets are washed, toothbrushes are thrown away, and even opening windows to air the house out will help.

An absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex is always good to boost the immune system as is regular principled chiropractic care. I can elaborate if you're interested.

God bless....Feel better!

It IS horrible!! Make sure everyone takes their FULL does of meds. It will last in your system after you are have have finished. The germs have died by now as it related to cleaning general areas- strep doesn't last long in an outside environment (but the toothbrush is mouth to mouth, so that's a safety measure). Rest first. Clean later.

New toothbrushes for everyone. Make sure all the sheets, pillowcases, and towels are all washed in hot water. You might consider having everyone gargle with grapefruit seed extract also. It's yucky, but very effective. Sorry for the awful sickness in your home. It is not fun at all!

It really hurts doesn't it!!! My kids get it all the time and I finally got it over the summer-so darn painful. Now I know what they are going through when they get it.

The antibiotics should really help prevent any current outbreaks. However, if you still feel very weak, you may want to make sure that you don't have mono along with it. My daughter just had a really bad case of strep, and after talking with a lot of people and her being sick for over a month, I think she had mono with it. I ended up switching doctors because her old one, I went to 4 times and ER three times in the month of October. No one did the mono test. Her new doctor, said, which I also read about that there is little you can do for mono, TIME and vitamins.

Well I can certainly relate. We are on our second round of strep in our house! The first round only went through to each kid but bypassed myself and hubby. Then one of them came down with it again this past weekend! I suspect it will end up going to my other daughter-they are twins and literally share EVERYTHING-lol! I am hoping it will bypass me and the hubs again but it doesn't look good :()( I can still have that hope though. The biggest issue is just basic sanitizing and throw away those toothbrushes-I went to the dollar store and bought a whole bunch because I have thrown out more tooth brushes this month due to the strep. Also make sure you get some probiotics to supplement from the use of antibiotics. There is a bad epidemic going throughout the kids school this year. I am a germaphobe too so I have been tempted to go up there with all my disinfectants and clean like a mad mommy!!!! It just won't go away! Make sure to enforce handwashing-that is a rule in my home. Wash your hands as soon as you walk through the door combined with spraying all door knobs with some lysol. I know sounds crazy and obviously it doesn't "prevent" it but I am hoping it keeps it away for at least a little while since the little booger found its way into my home TWICE!

Sometimes someone in the family is a carrier of strep and can spread it to the others without having any symptoms themselves. If it keeps reoccuring you could get everyone tested.

Yes, not very fun! First of all, everyone needs a new toothbrush, wash all towels/lines and run your dishes through the dishwasher. I would clean bathrooms and anything touched with a clorox wipe (light switches, tv remotes, etc...) Drink lots of liquids with your antibiotics and good for girls and women to eat yogurt to prevent other things. Take some daily vitamins and make sure the kids wash their hands when they get home from school.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
