Has anyone else in the Fairview area seen these wierd looking bugs? A couple of weeks ago, I took a step outside and there must have been hundreds of these long, brown, catipillar-looking worms with round black heads crawling around. Does anyone know what these things are and how to get rid of them...Straaaaaange!
Well, I guess the vote is that they are army worms and can kill grass. They have tapered off now...just hope they are gone for good. Thanx to all who responded...this is a great site!

hmmmm - they are in the Plano area also! We have 3 acres and there are thousands and thousands. Thanks for posting your concern - I didn't know they would eat the grass! The kids and I have just been watching them in amazement :o). Guess we may want to look into it more and possibly do some spraying.
I saw a special on Channel 8 about these. They are called Army Worms and they are invading neighborhoods in North Texas. Here is the link to the story:

Last week we received a flyer from our lawn maintenance man about an insect called army worm. I passed this flyer on to a friend who also lives in Fairview and has stated seeing the same bug, lots and lots of worm like insects in her grass.
