I know, I know... in the grand scheme of things this is so minor because my son is perfectly happy aand healthy.

He is 18 months old and still has his stork bite on his forehead. My other two had them but were faded and gone by 9 months. He is half native american....does this make a difference? How long can a stork bite last or at this point is it a birth mark?

Thanks for understanding, moms. :)

What can I do next?

My daughter's stork bite is at the base of her head/top of her spine. I too used to worry about it. She's now ten years old. It's faded some, and covered by her hair, but she still has it. I call it her birthmark. Other than a large mole on her hip that she's had since birth, those are the only "birthmarks" she has.

My daughter still has one. I use to be so upset about it. She's six after all and in the 1st grade. But it has now gotten to the point that it only come out as I call it when she's hot or mad. Then it as visible as can be. So it is mostly gone.

My daughter has one on her neck at her hairline so it isn't easily noticable unless you pull up her hair. She is 5, not Native American.

The following give you all the facts. No worries it'll fade a way or can be fixed.

Overview
A stork bite is a common type of birthmark seen in a newborn. It is most often temporary.

The medical term for a stork bite is nevus simplex. A stork bite is also called a salmon patch.
Symptoms
A stork bite usually looks pink and flat. A baby may be born with a stork bite, or the birthmark may appear in the first months of life. Stork bites may be found on the forehead, eyelids, nose, upper lip, or back of the neck.
Treatment
No treatment is needed. If a stork bite lasts longer than 3 years, it may be removed with a laser to improve the person's appearance.
Causes
Stork bites occur in about one third of all newborns.

A stork bite is due to a stretching (dilation) of certain blood vessels. It may become darker when the child cries or room temperature changes. It may fade when you push on it.
Tests & diagnosis
A doctor can diagnose a stork bite simply by looking at. No tests are needed.
Prognosis
Most stork bites on the face go away completely in about 18 months. Stork bites on the back of the neck usually do not go away.
Prevention
There is no known prevention.
Complications
There are usually no complications.
When to contact a doctor
All birthmarks should be examined by the health care provider during a routine well-baby examination.

My daughter is 6 y/o and she still has her stork bite on her toes. Her doctor says that at this point, it will probably never go away. He's not concerned about it. It's really just a birthmark now. All three of my kids have Native American in them from me, but only my youngest has a stork bite.

My nieces was very apparent until she was about 3, then it faded away. She is 10 now and if she gets very upset and cries you can see it sometimes. So I wouldn't worry too much.

I always thought of the one on the forehead as a angels kiss and the one on the back of the neck as a stork bite. Three of my children had this and I have to say at 11 my daughter doesn't have it any more. My 2 and 3 yr old still have them. Is your child really thin? When I asked my Dr. he said that as they get older and gain some fat it should go away or not really be noticeable. As they get older sometimes you won't notice it until they get hot or upset. Then you will notice that area get flushed. If it doesn't go away tell your son it just means he was kissed by an angel.

My daughter is 3 and a half, is still visible all the time, if you know what to look for, otherwise, ti just looks like a shadow above her nose between her eyebrows. She is very fair skinned, blonde. It gets VERY red when she gets upset or angry, or too hot. It has definitely faded as time has passed, though, and I assume it will continue to do so.

My daughter still has her and she is eight. you have to look really hard to see it unless she is mad or super hot but the older she gets the less you can see it.

It fades. However, my daughter is 22 and when she gets upset and red in the face, it still can be seen a tiny bit.
