Hello all, I have an almost 5 mo old girl...she started on Similac Advance after I had milk failure and was unable to nurse at 6 weeks. She did okay on it but my doc let me knwo that store brand was the SAME and recomended the Sam's Club brand, which is a knock off more of Enfamil with Lipil. She did great on it and has been fine. A friend of mine, however, got a new job with Enfamil and gave me two full cases of Enfamil with Lipil...the real stuff...and was wondering if it didn't bother her to swtich the first time if I could use it. I don't want to upset her...but it is 3 mos of formula right around Christmas! I see it as a gift! Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated. My ped said that if it didn't bother her the first time...it shouldn't bother her again sicne they are virtually the same. She stated that some babies can switch formulas with whatever is on sale...it just doesnt' bother some. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We are using it and it is working great...a little too great. She seems to spit up a lot LESS with the enfamil than with the Sam's Club brand...looks like I may need to sign up for some Enfamil coupons. Thanks so much.

Since all of the ingrediants are basically the same she should not have any problems, try it. It could save you a bunch of money this time of year.

There's no reason not to give it a try.

We only tried switching from Ready to Feed to the powder - that didn't go so well. But once when we were in the hospital (for croup), we didn't have enough formula with us, and the hospital let us use what they had - Enfamil Lipil (she was used to the Similac) and she did fine on that while we were there.

Good luck!

Hello! I have an 8month old soon who I nursed till 3 months then started similac advanced. After that i got smart and switched to Parents Choice (walmart). We have switched to regular similac here and there when it was bought for us and we have had no problem at all with his tummy. For the same ingredients you cant beat the price! I believe sams club is the same as walmart just under a different name. Best of luck!

I have used a few different types of the Parents Choice formula, which is WalMarts brand, for the most part, but used what the Similac Advance that the hospital sent home with us and on occassion will use Target brand with no problems. I would say that if she didn't have any reactions/troubles the first time then it would be safe to say she will be just fine.

Good Luck & Happy Holidays!

My son turned 1 28oct2008. When he was born, 5 weeks early so my milk never really came in, he was on Similac. Then we switched to Enfamil about 1 1/2 months later. 3 of my close friends said to try the Sams brand, twice more for the same price as 1 Enfamil can. So we did, within the first 2 months of his life he had 3 different brands of formula. My son never had a problem with any of switches.
I do remember reading somewhere that even the generic brands of baby formula have to follow the same guidelines as brand names per the FDA.
I really do not think your precious little one will notice! Good luck!

Oh my gosh, you are so lucky!!! USE THE FORMULA!!! I'm sure it will be fine. If by chance it upsets her tummy, all you have to do is switch back. It's as easy as that! Enjoy your free supply of formula!

I was fortunate to breastfeed all my babies but if I were unable to I would invest the money for my childs health and get only organic formula or goats milk(no matter where I had to cut back in other areas to save money). The FDA has decided in all their infinite wisdom(i am being sarcastic here)that there are safe amounts of melamine to be allowed in infant formula---the stuff that has killed hundreds of pets all over and babies in China. Melamine forms a plastic like substance in kidneys --like plastic kidney stones which CANNOT be dissolved, they really have no idea how much is safe for infants. I hope every formula feeding mom reads up on this issue and does not wait to find out how much melamine is really safe!

She'll be fine! There is no reason not to use the formula. The store brand is almost exactly the same. She may experience some gas at first, much like when you try something a little different. You can mix the old formula 1/2 and 1/2 with the Enfamil. We switched back and forth several times when my daughter was young and never had a problem. What a great friend! I'm sure free formula is a blessing right now! :D

If you are concerned about the transition, ease into it by doing a 3 scoops to one of the new stuff, then 2 & 2, then 3 to 1 of the new stuff until it is all new stuff. Good luck and congrats on the formula gift...that is a HUGE savings!

A., I am a Naturopathic Doctor in Noblesville and the doctor was right, any of the commercial formula are the same; low in nutrients and high in weight gaining properties. In fact makers of pet food put in more nutrients than are in infant formula and the small amount of DHA added is useless. I am very sorry that you had trouble nursing and you are not alone. The very best formula and closest to mother's milk you can give your child is a formula made with goat's milk. Goat's milk is closest to mother's milk and rarely causes any milk allergies. It has to have blackstrap molasses added for iron, B-Vitamins, and carbohydrates and you have to water it down because the protein content is so high, until by the time the baby is one year, they can drink straight goat's milk. Most of the world's children are raised on goat's milk. It can be purchased at most grocery stores including Walmart. There is a formula and if you call me, I will give it to you ###-###-####). This is the formula my grandchildren are nurtured on. Carol Rossetti, N.D.

She should be fine. I have a 3mth old daughter and we give her the WalMart brand of formula (probably the same thing you're giving your daughter). And then when she is at daycare they give her Similac Advance. The switching back and forth hasn't seemed to bother her.

I switched back and forth between Enfamil and "Sam's" knock off for both of my babies with no problems. If you read the labels, they are almost identical. Three months is 3 months, that will help a lot at the holidays. Good luck!
