Hey mamas! My husband and I have decided to start trying for our second baby...YEAH!!! I just went off the pill about a week ago and just yesterday and today have noticed I'm having slight cramps. They aren't bad at all, but I don't get them during my period, so they are quite annoying! I just want to make sure that this is normal when coming off the pill. I've looked online and have found where it is norma...but no one know more than other mamas who have been thru this! I didn't start taking the pill until after my daughter was born, so I've never gone off it before!

Thanks mamas!!!

What can I do next?

The "pill" is a very powerful hormonal drug and you will likely feel many bodily changes as you come off of it. You might want to go to the website www.birthcontrol.org to learn more about it and other options you have instead after you have your next little one.

Normally if you go off of the pill your body has to adjust to having it. As for the cramps they will come after going off of the pill. No doubt you will soon be in that cycle of the month. Many ppl. who go off of them either they have cramping or they don't. You may find this for the first 2mths. Your body now has to rid itself of the medicinal effects of the pill. You will likely notice some heavier clotting as well which is normal, so not to worry. Your hormones' have to get back to where they were prior to taking the pill. I'm sure your Dr. has told you not to become pregnant right away so that your body rids itself of whatever is in the pill. Wait for at least 3mos. If you have been on the pill for sometime you will more than likely find cramping, mood swings, sweating etc. All those good things. lol When you decide that its time to become pregnant don't worry if it doesn't happen right away. Sometimes it happens almost instantly and with others' because of the dosage of the pill and the length of time you have been on them it may take time, don't panic and think its not going to happen, it will. I congratulate your and your hubby and daughter/son. Remember don't go in panic mode if it doesn't happen just when you want it to. I know I did myself and it only creates stress and that in itself will not help the situation. Just relax, the more you think I want this to happen now won't help the situation. Sometimes like I said with the pill it just takes' a little longer. When it happens you and hubby will be as happy as anyone could be having a new little one and I couldn't be more happier for you. Take care and think positive!!

Unfortunately, I had horrible cramping for the whole month when I went off bc. I was on the pill before we conceived our first, and went off a few months before starting to try since my husband was out of town for 3 months doing work. I never went back on (we're preg w/ #3 now) partially because of those awful cramps. Nobody I'd talked to said it was familiar, but it felt so directly a result of the birth control, I didn't question it. It was like menstrual cramps, but worse, and I hadn't had cramping on the pill, either, so this was new to me. I haven't been on the pill now for almost 7 years, but I'd say that cramping was just a bit worse than the cramping I have now, without the pill, premenstrually. Sorry!!! Hope it goes away soon!

when I went off the pill it took me a year to have periods again. I'd get cramps, but no period.

It is completely normal. I can't say anything that other mommas haven't already said, but I just wanted to add in, too. Your hormones are trying to balance back out naturally since you are no longer taking a synthetic hormone.

On the bright side, I have heard that since birth control suppresses your ability to ovulate that when you stop taking it, your body goes into overdrive and release several eggs to make up for it. That increases your chance of conceiving. That's how we had our little one! ^_^ Good luck!!

Just try some over the counter ibuprofen and it should take care of the cramping! Good luck!

Depends on where you were in your cycle when you stopped taking the pills. If you finished a pack and then didn't start another that would be easier on your body than stopping mid pack. Even though you don't normally get cramps, I'd say these sound like menstral cramps as your body adjusts to the change in hormones.

Good luck.

You have not ovulated regularly while on the pill, since its purpose was to suppress your system. Because of that, your estrogen/progesterone balance is WWWAAAYYYY off. The heavy cramps, PMS, all the above is a result of this low progesterone level in your body. If you supplement with a progesterone cream in the second half of your cycle, you will up your pregnancy chances, lower your cancer risks, and feel AMAZING while trying for your second baby. Not too mention improve how your body utilizes vitamins/minerals, ward off depression by supporting your brain balance of serotonin, melotonin, and epinephrine (sp? sorry!). In other words, you will sleep like a baby (that is until your kids interrupt, right?!)

Not all progesterone creams meet the standards of research to get your body in its best balance as you were made to be. For more information, I'd love to talk with you. Write back and we can chat it up.

Blessings,
L.
