Hi! My husband and I just started ttc. I was in the middle of week 2 of my pills when I quit taking them. Four days later I started bleeding. I am bleeding more then what I normally would during my periods. Just wondering if anoyone else has experienced this and could tell me if it is normal. Also, does it count as a period or what? And, would it still occur if I was pregnant? Please let me know. Thanks so much.

What can I do next?

Hi E.,

I know how you feel, after having my second child I was bleeding for 3 months, and I'm talking HEAVY bleeding. The doctor told me it was normal, I went to someone else and he said the same thing, but he gave me a male hormone shot to stop the bleeding. I've had ilregular period ever since; after I have my third child, I had an IUD put in and the bleeding is non stop, I' bleeding everyday. So I think I might have it taken out b/c walking around with a tampon or pad all the time is uncomfortable. I would still check with your doctor or go to Lee Convenant Care if you don't have a doctor. Everyone is different and you could be pregnant and had some reaction to the pills, you never know. When you are on the pill pregancy can happen very quickly when you stop taking them. I know....meet child #2...LOL Good Luck!

Sounds like breakthrough bleeding to me too. I get it when I switch brands, or during the first week of a new pill pack, if I don't take my pill at the same exact time. I start cramping and sometimes bleed.

I did have what seemed like a period just after I got pregnant with my son, but it is nothing like what you described. Without wanting to be graphic, it was brownish, rather than the red, was very light, and lasted only a couple days. Then...hahaa... three weeks later I thought I had a horrible flu, then a week after that I realized I was pregnant. ;-)

its called withdrawl bleeding and it is very normal. your body isnt allowed to cycle when its on the pill so when you abruptly stop like you did your hormone level drops triggering your uterus to shed its lining

I thought I would die during my first period after I stopped taking the pill. It was so painful and sooooo much blood. Not to mention, I had to take 400 kids on a field trip to Disney that night for Grad Bash. :)
Prior to going on the pills (10 years ago), I had heavy cycles, with bad cramps, lasting at least 7 days. They went back to that, with the first 2-3 being absolutely unbearable.
You might spot bleed for awhile due to when you got off. It shold lighten up. When you are on the pill, the pill tells your body you are pregnant and it causes the lining of your uterus to be really thin. When you are not on it, the lining becomes thicker in anticipation of a fertilized egg.

have fun trying :)

Totally normal. Stopping the pill is like taking the week of white pills. It makes you start your period. Now you regulate back to normal.

Yes, it is normal to start your period after stoping the pill. Your body has stopped receiving the hormone. I would call your obgyn though.
