it sucks but it is normal. keep her hydrated, and quiet. i wouldn't go to the ER over this.

So my 3-year-old was throwing up on Friday, seemed better all day yesterday (wouldn't eat and slept more than normal but was drinking, playing, and in good spirits). By yesterday evening she seemed almost completely well and even ate a little. Today, (Sunday), she woke up moaning that her stomach hurt and threw up twice. Of course it's the weekend and I can't take her in to the dr and I don't feel like this really warrants a trip to the er, and besides, I know that all they'll say is that it's a virus and it has to run its course. But is it normal to be getting better and not throw up for over 24 hours and all of a sudden be throwing up again?

Completely normal, just make sure she is getting enough fluids, even if all she can tolerate is little sips here and there.
Oh and make sure whatever she is drinking is room temperature.
Last April my daughter had a stomach virus that lasted for 11 days. She threw up every other day. It was awful but even on day 9 her pediatrician did not want to see her.
I hope your 3 year old recovers quickly.
Yes-the virus can be staunched for a while, then get ahead at a later time. It's too bad that babies cannot take Pepto-which surrounds the organism and carries it out of the body-adults can drink an entire bottle within 4 hours-and it is quite effective. Pepto contains a compound found in aspirin-that's why we don't give it to children-sad:(. Back in the olden days, we were given Paregoric-we then slept for 24 hours, got up and had a bowl of chili-very effective!

Take care-I know this is not easy!
Yep. Symptoms of a stomach virus can last from 1 day to two weeks. I thought I had escaped the flu my kids got Monday with just a day or two of dizziness and headache earlier in the week. But yesterday all the other symptoms finally hit me.
Yes. If she's not drinking things then she needs to go to the ER if she starts showing signs of dehydration.
I also suggest you call the doc on call and ask them for some ointment to rub on her wrists to stop the nausea. It's what they give in the ER too.
This might help your child to stop the puking and hold some fluids down on her own.

My son has the same thing. He too seemed to be doing better then got sick again. Thinking about right after, I don't think he ever was over it because he wasn't eating. He only threw up when he actually ate something. I too thought about going the doc route, but he no longer has a fever and he's drinking water. I know the doc will just say do the BRAT diet so that's what I'm doing. I did call my doc's office and they sent in a prescription for an anti nausea, but I've only had him take it twice. He didn't get sick while taking it, but it didn't make things better when he wasn't taking it, if that makes sense. Oh and he just started getting diarrhea, good times. I hope your litte one feels better, I'm looking forward to mine getting back to normal I know that ;)
This stomach virus is the worst! My youngest started w/it Tues evening, I then got it, along w/my oldest & husband. Wed am I ended up in the e/r b/c i had passed out from dehydration & my husband was concerned as i had struck my head on our pergo floor in our kitchen & was seizing. The e/r dr & nurses were all commenting on this strain of virus being the worst and it is by far. The vomitting was on & off w/all of us, the loss of appetite is still there, the loose caboose, you name it, it's all part of it. We're hopefully at the end of things and I truly hope we never have anything thru our house like this again. My husband is not one to complain, but he seriously feels like he pulled every muscle in his neck from getting so sick. I hope your little one gets better soon.
