Stomach So Heavy It's Hard to Walk

I am 30 weeks pregnant. The doc suspects the baby is very large (my daughter was 10lbs) and/or there is a lot of amniotic fluid. When I walk it hurts alot and feels like the baby is just pulling all my insides down toward my groin. I would like to work as long as possible b/c I really need the money, but it's starting to feel impossible. I tried a couple of different maternity belts but they didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions for maternity belts or other solutions to help alleviate the pain while working?? (I never felt this pain with my daughter--it's a boy so maybe that's why???)

What can I do next?

I had the same pain with my second child, and she was smaller than my first. I wasn't able to find anything that helped other than periodically getting down on my hands and knees and doing some deep breathing. Good luck!

I had A LOT of extra fluid. My baby was average size. Your Dr. should measure your amounts of fluid, if she suspects a large amount. Too much fluid, can lead to certain difficulties with birth. I'm surprised, she hasn't measured with you being so close to full term. Anyway, I felt the same way. in my case, nothing helped. It became so hard to walk, I would start contracting. It was like running a marathon, just to walk to the bathroom. I was put on bed rest. I'm not saying this to discourage you, but to make sure your Dr. looks into this. My Dr. always measured my fluid, because of the complications that can happen. Talk to your Dr. asap about this!

It sounds gross but my third pregnancy was awfully uncomfortable as well, it constantly felt like I had a bowling ball on my pelvic bone and i had a lot of pelvic pain when I walked or stood. Barring bedrest or keeping your feet up I wore support maternity hose and also used a maternity belt. Ask your doctor what otc pain meds are safe. Were you wearing the maternity belts correctly? Most maternity stores will help fit you.

Many women have issues with pubic bone dysfunction, which it sounds like what you are dealing with. I'm pregnant with #4 and had the most problem with it during my 1st pregnancy, oddly enough. My 2nd baby was 10 pounds 4oz and I always have TONS of amniotic fluid - so much that with each pregnancy, I get asked it I'm carrying twins!

I get adjusted at the same frequency that I see my midwife. My friends do the same thing with their OBs. So, if they are seeing their OB once/month, then they see our chiropractor once a month. Even when they are down to once a week, same for their chiropractor. Our chiro is a mom and knows how to adjust the public done, etc. None of us have any pain during our pregnancies. Their OBs say it's normal to have pain, I disagree. I think it might be the NORM, but it's not normal.

Here's something you can do on your own:

If it doesn't take care of it completely, here's a list of chirorpactors who adjust pregnancy women and babies on a regaular basis:

Good luck sweetie!

I hope that trying the chiropractor works. Also I do think you should talk to your doctor and see what he/she can come up with. I myself had great success with one of those belts, but I got it at BabiesRus so you probably already tried it. As far as wondering about the baby's size or carrying extra fluid I hope your doctor is sending you for an ultrasound so they can actually measure the fluid. Can you try to cut back on your hours at work or work from home sometimes? It was personally traumatic to me when I was told I had to stop working because there wasn't any transition or time to prepare. After school one day I went for a follow up test and they sent me right to the hospital. There it was determined I could go home if I stayed down, and the nurse offered to take me to the NICU to make her point that this was serious. Looking back I wished that I had prepped for the possibility of leaving work when my doctpor sent me for the test. On the other hand, I really had no idea the situation was that bad. I felt fine. After what I experienced I am all for trying to find alternative solutions so you don't feel forced into leaving work before you are financially ready. And I am also all for speaking up and asking for tests, because peace of mind is so worth it. Good luck and I hope you feel some relief soon!

I used the maternity belt from motherhood, which is just like an elastic band, and that really helped, but you can also get them that go over your shoulders and under your belly - you just need to google it and see which one you like

I am due in a couple weeks...if I make it till then. This little boy is huge and every bit of this pregnancy has been extremely difficult compared to my first one. I have had the feeling like my muscles are ripping apart eachother and the rest of my body from the weight of my stomach. I wear tighter yoga or excercise shirts under other shirts, the material is stronger. Sometimes even 2 if I will be walking very long or far, and I tuck them in/under the top of my pants. It gives a bit of overall support to all of the tummy. I hate those back and belly bands, so uncomfortable and ichy, though they do give some support, especially if your lower back is being pulled on as well.

Call a local medical supply store they have a wider variety of maternity belts. It sounds like you need a belt to support your back as well as help hold the baby. Did you have a c-section the first time around?
