My 7 year old has had what seems to be the stomach flu/bug 3x in the last 3mos.It was NOT back to back either spaced out about 4-5 weeks each time. Is this normal or a coincidence? I really hate bringing my kids to the pediatrician unless their is a real need. Should I bring her in? She doesn't run a fever just get's sick to her stomach very suddenly, then vomits, sometimes vomits once sometimes twice before she's good and back to normal. Today she was sick to her stomach, had NOTHING to eat so I assumed she was just very hungry and insisted she try and eat something, she did and 30min. later out it came. Then she slept the rest of the day and ate nothing else.

What can I do next?

Hmmm. Given the lack of fever and your daughter bouncing back quite quickly, I am wondering if it's a food allergy or sensitivity? They can crop up at anytime, even if a person was previously able to tolerate the food.

For example, my son can sometimes tolerate dairy products just fine, and sometimes he screams and then vomits. (He's 1, so he can't vocalize yet as to what's hurting.) After a couple of episodes like that, we pulled him off dairy and started giving him goat's milk, and he's been fine.

I would say maybe keep a food diary for a few months and see if you notice any connections. I would also keep track of any other digestion issues she might have, like a sore stomach or constipation or diarrhea.

In any event, the flora and fauna in her stomach may be off kilter from all the vomiting. I would recommend giving her yogurt or kefir with *live active cultures* to restore the good bacteria in her digestive track. I know you can also get active cultures in pill form, but I've never done it myself.

Good luck!

Did she have a flu shot? Sometimes the shot only helps shorten the flu or decrease the symptoms. If there is something going around, maybe she isn't getting as sick as she would if she didn't have the shot. If she didn't get her flu shot, I don't think it would hurt to call the doctor. It is a little odd to only have vomiting and no other symptoms.

Do you have a local nurse line you can call instead of taking time off of work/school to take her in? With the lack of fever and quick rebound, it makes me wonder if she's sensitive to some of the foods she's eating? Dairy products are the main culprit among my group of friends and our kids. What about wheat/protein foods? Also, do you have pets? I know that there is something in cat feces that causes illness in children and pregnant women (sorry I can't be more specific of what it is, I just know that I wasn't allowed to clean the cat box while pregnant).

If pets aren't a factor, I'd say keep tabs of what she's eating on the days that she's getting sick. I see you guys are great about handwashing (I would LOVE some tips to get my kids into this habit! :P) so another question I have is: have you changed brands of soaps/detergents/cleaners/hair products recently? Has she been helping to clean the kitchen/bathrooms? When I was young I was VERY sensitive to alot of cleaners/soaps and would get wicked bouts of diarrhea/nausea if I used things like Comet or toilet bowl cleaner.

If you've ruled all those things out, it's not going to hurt to take her in. Even if only for the peace of mind, it's worth checking out. I hope she's feeling better soon! :)

B.,

I know the flu shot has nothing to do with the stomach flu... only the resperatory flu.
