Dear J.: So sorry about the bad news. My MIL fought uterine sarcoma and was in remission for 2 years before she relapsed in August. Now she has inoperable colon cancer.
When we first heard the news, it was hard for me not think about anything but the worst possible outcome. Cancer is very scary. After a week or two, the reality that treatment is available became the focus. Now, were hopeful that the chemotherapy will be enough to stop the growth and shrink the tumor enough that she can have surgery.
I recommend visiting the American Cancer Society website. They have a lot of success stories that will hopefully help you reframe your thoughts. People do survive, even in the worst cases.
Keep in mind, this is only the BEGINNING. Fighting cancer is a journey. In some cases, a really long journey.
My MIL had the worse possible scenario (the first time) and survived. We're hoping for another miracle.
I know its difficult and the your emotions get the best of you. THERE IS STILL HOPE. My advice is not to treat her like shes sick. Meaning encourage her to walk, get out of bed, do things that she normally would. Keep up her spirits and strength as best you can.
Prayers to you and your family!
