We have always done a new box of crayons and a Christmas coloring book. We have also done matchbox cars since you can find those for a dollar. Dollar Trees have a lot of inexpensive little gadgets too.
Merry Christmas!
So Christmas presents are all bought and wrapped, woo-hoo! Now I need some ideas for inexpensive, but exciting stocking stuffers, my son is now 3.5, so this is the first year he has gotten the idea of Santa coming with presents and filling his stocking. I don't want to just fill it with a bunch of candy, what are some things others do to fill their stockings?

When my son was that age I stuffed with bubble bath, kid soaps, toothbrushes and toothpaste, slim jims and jerky (he gets canisters now), tennis balls, cards/card games, hot wheels/matchbox, crayons, markers, paints, color books, hand painted pillow case, pick up stix. Basically, anything small and inexpensive that is safe for a
3 1/2 year old.
Merry Christmas. Have fun. They grow up way too fast!
I love filling up the stockings and don't like to do much candy either. I've done a little puzzle, little book, toothbrush, WalMart had some cute things in their Christmas aisle that included a small christmas activity book, stickers, cd of music they like. I was at Michaels a few weeks ago and they had some cute things in their $1.00 section........... I know Target has a $1.00 area now too. I've also do a small toy like a $.99/car for my son or little doll for my daughter. There are lots of inexpensive things out there. Hope that helps.
small flashlight, sports mag, magnets

Didnt read your other responses, so Im sorry if Im a repeat. The dollar bins at Target is whats filling my kids stockings. They have very cute stuff. Even little potted plants the kids can plant the seeds themselves. My daughter LOVES the dollar bins! Done! Merry Christmas!
Some of my favorites growing up were stellar dollar store finds: bubbles, little notebooks, chapstick, play-doh, card games, etc. Just go to the dollar store and have fun!
How about a toothbrush, matchbox cars, box of crayons, underwear, etc.
Hi R., I hit the dollor bins at the front of target and than the bins at the end of the toy isle. playful socks, cards, recorder, slinky, noise makers, playdoh tubes, matchbox cars. Hope that helps. I need ideas for my 3yo regular presants your so ahead of me..
I bought each of my kids a battery powered toothbrush in their favorite character for the stocking. Other good ideas are books, travel art supplies, & a mini aquadoodle.
I guess I am heading to Target tonight! HA! Great idea!
Now I did already get a few things which I bought through my friends Avon website which offers Free Shipping w/ only a $10 order. I got my son a 3pack of Bible Songs CDs, some paint soap rollers for the bath which he already has and loves so much and they lasted a long time!!! They are I think only $1.99 each! I also got them for our little nephew! Then they have fun chapstick flavors and some other little things. Then I even got my hub a pair of new nail clippers too. Then, it was all delivered to my door for Free!
One other thing I would recommend is my son loves his Rubics Cube but we found it at the dollar store vs. I now am seeing them in larger packaging for $10 and up! Get the cheap on just wrapped in sulifane(sp) for $1. It works just fine.
my son is 3 too - this is his first "getting it" christmas too, and he asks everyday if santa is coming tonight! i am soooo excited! he's getting in his stocking, some roll-on bath paints (i found them thru avon), a keychain flashlight/laser pointer, and a couple canisters of play doh. matchbox cars are good too, think i might throw a couple in there.
My kids 3.5 and 5.5 are getting new markers, books of mazes, tattoos, toothbrushes and toothpaste (seriously, they get so excited!), socks, bacugons... That all sounds rather boring, but kids get so excited over the simplest things. If your son is into dress ups - how about a bandana, sunglasses, funny socks, a hat ...
In past years, the kids have received tops, train whistles, slinkies, new paints, new art supplies, small lego kits.
The dollar aisle at Target is a great place to start.
Merry Christmas, Mrs. Claus!
hot wheels cars, bubble bath, bath crayons, crayons with coloring book
We give our kids some candy and an ornament. It is the yearly tradition that my parents started with me as a child. Our kids (14,11, and 5) look forward to it every year.
If he likes cars, those are good to put in stockings. We used to put the little matchbox cars in for my brother since he loved them. Another thing we always got was a Pez dispenser, which is silly, but was something fun to look forward to every year. Good luck!
The stockings are my favorite. I love doing them. I buy all kinds of different things... paperback book, coloring books, crayons, pens, pencils (he may be too young??), character tooth brush, fun toothpaste, combs and brushes, bath products- tub crayons maybe or the bath foam, a character wash cloth(some come in a shaped package that are really cute), small stuffed animals, airplanes, cars, action figures, favorite snacks... like gummies or crackers... Santa used to bring us fruit too... basically anything that has a cool fun character or bright color my kids love. The sky is the limit on stocking things...so much fun!! Enjoy it.
My boys are now 21 and 16 and they still get a new x-mas ornament every year in their stocking. They also will get a movie and a little bag of candy. I have put the same thing in their stocking for years and they look forward to getting it each year.
Last night I bought my daughter a singing holiday toothbrush at Walgreens. Unfortunately I'm not too sure on other boy items for stockings, sorry. Good luck though!
Stockings are my favorite! So many things can go in stockings that are not candy ( not a fan of candy in my house much) color books, crayons, washable markers, bath crayons, tub toys, small stuffed animal, small board books, music cd, kiddy dvd, bubbles, small dollar store toys, toy cars, socks, new slippers, tooth brush, tooth paste ( my kids have always got new tooth brushes in everything from stockins to easter baskets) they also make travel versions of a lot of games now even some for pre-school age. I have found cute stocking stuffers at Cracker Barrel and even at party supply stores and craft and hobby stores. I got my love of stuffing stockings from my mom who always made our stockings so exciting and I wanted to pass that on to my kids as well. There are just so many ways to fill a stocking inexpensively, and if you have a child who likes to unwrap you can wrap some of the small gifts and put in the stocking, I usually try and find Santa themed paper.
Hope you have a magical holiday and that you get lots of great ideas!
Oh...play dough is good too as a stuffer = )

Good Morning R... Woohoo Congrats, We are Done also.
Stocking stuffers are easy for little folks. When they all came here for Christmas morning, we put an apple or orange in it. A few little cars or trucks in for the boys, a hand held little game, a coloring book with crayons. For Tia I put some nail polish, maybe a small bottle of (smell good) perfume, hair clips or bands and a hand held game.
Now that we suggested family traditions at their homes, I just need to get stuffers for hubby :)
Hope this helps you a little
God Bless you with a Merry Christmas

Crayons, colored pencils, colorbooks bend and stuff, small cars, small trucks, Have a Merry Christmas...
So, the first idea is sort of candy, but really cute. Put marshmallows in a baggie and then print out this free "snowman" poop card. It's really cute and my son loves it!!

We also got useful things, my son is getting a pair of gloves and a socks, along with a little bit of candy. I also went to the store and got one of those big bouncing balls out of the machine, the $0.50 ones and put one in each stocking (so for $2 everyone got an extra ball) and last year, I did it for my teenage niece and cousins, they played with that bouncing ball more than the kids did (even if they didn't act excited to get it).
Good luck.
These ladies have awesome ideas, so I only had one thing to add. My parents always put an apple or an orange in the toe of the stocking. These also added nuts, the kind that you have to crack. He may be a little too small for the nuts, especially without your help, but I thought I would put that in there too. There is nothing wrong with adding healthy treats. If he doesn't think that there should be candy in there, then he won't care when there isn't!
I always get my daughter a new toothbrush, and toothpaste for her stocking.
R., Check Party America or a similar store for small items, note books, slinkys, balls. I found some cute snowflake key chains that light up and play a song. You could also check out the dollar store or dollar bins at Target for cute (cheap) little toys.

At our house Santa usually brings things Mom & Dad would never buy. Practical items, but different than what I'd usually get. For instance, my daughter needs socks, so instead of the giant pack of white socks I'd buy for her, Santa will bring cute, fun socks. Or if they need underwear, instead of the cheaper multi-pack, Santa might bring some with their favorite characters. Also toothpaste, bubble bath, or scented lotion with character on them. Or gloves, hats, etc. The fabric items keep the stocking from weighing too much and pulling off the holder. We also put in some candy, too, including at least 1 candy cane, and other snacks we don't usually buy like Pop Tart and cereal straws.
Cars, coloring books, puzzles, dollar store little gifts...My older ones will get bubble bath and different things like that...Merry Christmas!!!
We have 6 kids (ages 13-2 1/2). At our house Santa puts healthy snacks, sugarless gum, and always a new toothbrush and toothpaste. He's also left sunglasses or small books, socks and small race cars are a hit too. Just think outside the box (or should I say stocking!!!) Good luck and have fun!
hot wheels, hot wheels, hot wheels!
Hot Wheels and coloring books and twistables crayons (my new favorite thing because they can't peel off the label and can't snap them in half)
I'm gonna do some craft stuff like glue sticks, popsicle sticks. There are fun little cut out wooden pieces at hobby lobby in dinosaur and sports themes. They also have wooden door hangers that you can decorate. And his first pair of safety scissors (little nervous about that!).
