Stinky Lunchbox!

My darling son spilled some milk in his lunchbox, and neglected to tell me about it. Now his lunchbox really stinks! I have tried bleach, but it didn't work. How do I get the sour milk smell out of a lunchbox? I would rather not throw it out and buy a new one!

What can I do next?

No one suggested this one,so I'll chime in. Fill the lunchbox with crumpled newspaper--the black and white, not colored sections. Then close it up and let it sit overnight. Something about the ink along with the absorbancy of the paper helps. I used this trick once when my electricity was out for a storm and the refrigerator smelled awful. The power company told me to do this. Good luck!

You may have already gotten this one, but try vinegar just plain white vinegar with your dish soap, let it soak, it should remove the stink and once it drys doesn't smell like vinegar at all.

My son forgot his lunchbox at school over the weekend and his milk exploded. I washed the lunchbox and backpack in laundry detergent in the sink, let it soak for a bit of time (I don't remember how long), and then set it out to dry. No more smell.

Try washing it in a little baking soda and water. Dry it, then leave some baking soda in it overnight. See if that works. Good luck!

You could try vinegar or baking soda. If neither of those work, time to buy a new lunchbox!

I know that everyone is saying Baking Soda, vinegar, and bleach but have you thought about fresh lemon and oranges. Get some og the fruits and squeeze them then wash the lunch box with the juices. Maybe let it sit awhile. This should help lemon can clean and get the smell out of everything!

Good Luck!

Baking soda! Dissolve some baking soda in warm water and soak the lunchbox in it (or pour it inside the lunchbox). I have a stainless steel sippy cup that my son uses for milk only and about once a week I soak it in baking soda because the milk smell does build up in it. It works great, no more smell!

Try scrubbing lunchbox with baking soda... Also works for removing odors from smelly feet and sneakers.

The queen of clean has never steered me wrong yet, try Odors out...you can purchase it a Pet Smart or Ace Hardware. It is a natural product. You sprinkle it in the lunch box and close it. Let it absorb the molecules for 24 hours. If there is still a smell, reapply. It works everytime. You can also sprinkle the granules into a nylon.

If it's plastic, I would try soaking it in bleach water for several hours and then sending it through the dishwasher.

Don't know if this will work......what about trying to rub the inside of the lunchbox with lime or lemon wedges?
