I know there are some yeast/bacterial infections that can cause an odor. Call your ped and ask to talk with a nurse - you may have to leave brief description of problem and name for them to return call. Mention the problem to her and she should be able to tell you if you need to bring your daughter in to get any cultures or such or if there is something over the counter you can use or if it's not really a problem and give an explanation. Just tell the nurse exactly what you wrote - strange smell even when clean and no dirty/wet diaper and no signs of rash. They are your best resource.

What do you clean her with? Soap and wipes can throw off the balance of good bacteria. It's best to clean the genitals with plain water. Does she get some bare bottom time every day? If you use disposable diapers, she may be reacting to the chemicals in them. If you use cloth, your diapers may need stripping. Or she may just be someone who produces a lot of smegma. Healthy genitals are supposed to have some odor to them, and we're all different. :)

My girlfriend has as a 5 yr old with that issue. It's a infection, yeast infection!! Get her checked out.
Last thing you want, it that get out of hand or get worse.

A little girl at my church had a smell her doctor said that a odor could me a yeast infection or bladder or even a kidney i would call your ped. Even if she doesnt have anything and its just there you will feel better and your MIL wont be able to get to you.

I would call your peditrican and make an appointment./ She maybe getting a yeast or bacterial infection. If it is still in the early stage the rash may not have developed yet. I would definately call her doctor.

My daughter smells kind of like a mix between urine and ammonia, I took her to the doctor and the did a urinalysis and she had a UTI. She went on antibiotics and it cleared up within a day. I would definitely call your pediatrician and get an appointment.

Bring her to the doctor. I think it's a yeast infection.
