So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the helpful responses. Last night we started anew with new shoes and socks (cotton ONLY) and will be taking zinc. If that doesn't work...on with the deodorant and hopefully their feet won't run everyone, including the dogs, out of the room!

My 18 month old daughter has super-stinky feet and, at her doctor's recommendation, we started putting deodorant on them before socks or shoes and it has helped a bunch. They're not roses, by any means, but at least I can stand to be in the room with her and her shoes when she's barefoot. We use Tom's deodorant on her, because I wanted to avoid chemicals and aluminum since she's so little. Good luck!

We are going through this againthis year with one of my girls. 2 yrs ago was the first time and it was absolutely HORRIBLE. I could not be in the same room. Even odor eaters didn;t do the trick. We tried many things, including soaking in tea, washing repeatedly every day, wasing shoes, having multiple pairs of shoes to air out the others. Tea tree oil was the key for her. All the other lethods work but for some reason, not for her. I bought regular tea tree oil from Drugstore.com and put it in one of those travel spray bottles. She would wash her feet and then spray with the oil. She also used Odor Eater or Dr Scholl foot spray in her shoes. I just ordered more tea tree oil yesterday.

I was just reading in a seasonal detox book that (this surprised me) intestinal parasites (tapeworms, and pinworms) can be responsible for smelly feet and increased body odor. May have nothing to do with it but, might be worth looking into. Good luck!

They are lacking Zinc in their diets. Try to find a good multi vitamin that has zinc in it.

What are the shoes made of? Man-made materials have a tendency to stink feet up pretty badly. Leather shoes or shoes with leather uppers are usually better with the smell factor. You can put some dry baking soda into them, let them sit a while, and then knock them out- this helps temporarily, so you have to do it on a regular basis. You can use foot sprays, but my experience is that they don't really keep the smell down much longer than baking soda.

Can the kids rotate wearing shoes? Meaning do they wear the same pair all day every day? I read where it takes 24 hours for shoes to be completely dry from moisture. Rotate shoes and also for inexpensive Dr. Scholl's has odor eaters that help minimize smell and dry up moisture...That should help. Also in the future looks for shoes that breath. Man made plastics retain the "stink" Good luck

Have your children soak in a bath that has epsom salt and sea salt in it (1 cup of each). Or just have them soak their feet in a epsom salt/sea salt bath. This will help detoxify their feet.

Also, check out the fiber content on the socks they are wearing and what materials were used to make your children's shoes. Synthetic fiber traps moisture which ends up being a breeding ground for bacteria, which ends up causing stinky feet and underarms.

Hope this helps.

have everybody soak their feet in apple cider vinegar, thoroughly scrub your tub/showers with a mold killer, & then scrub your floors too. Make sure you are vigilant in scrubbing regularly.

Bleach all socks, wash the shoes if possible.

Hope this helps.

Try to buy shoes and socks with non-synthetic materials: only cotton, leather, suede...no "man made uppers" at all.

If the socks have ANY synthetic fibers, even 2% spandex, then they can/will cause stinky feet. I had a friend SWEAR that his socks were 100% cotton and I told him there was no way possible. He went to prove me wrong. Went to Costco and looked. They had changed from 100% cotton and added some sythetic, but it was so minor, he couldn't feel it. He was shocked. He threw them out and went back to 100% cotton - and no feet stink anymore!

Once you do that, if the smell persists, my mom always use to say: ZINC IF YOU STINK.
